According to L’Equipe, Jacquet is expected to feature in Zinedine Zidane’s first squad. Selection would reward an encouraging start on Merseyside and offer an early indication of how France’s new head coach intends to develop his defensive options.

For Liverpool, it would also underline how quickly a summer arrival has become a player of consequence.
