RB Leipzig vs Liverpool: Starting XI Prediction

Liverpool’s horrid run of fixtures are finally upon us with the Reds getting off to a great start with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea on Sunday. Now, attention turns to the UEFA Champions League as Arne Slot’s side travel to RB Leipzig on Wednesday, looking to maintain their perfect start in the competition.

The Reds have already secured two impressive victories over AC Milan and Bologna and now face a German double-header in the competition with Bayer Leverkusen lined up after Wednesday’s clash with RB Leipzig. With that being said, let’s take a look at our predicted lineup for the game…

Changes at the Back

Caoimhin Kelleher will of course start in goal, as Alisson Becker remains sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained before the international break. After coming off on Sunday, Trent Alexander-Arnold will start once again at right-back, but Kostas Tsimikas will come in for Andy Robertson on the left-side with the Scotsman looking pretty leggy against Chelsea.

I’m sure Slot will be tempted to rotate his centre-backs with Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah waiting in the wings, however I believe Virgil Van Dijk will be partnered by Ibou Konate once again for this one. The Frenchman will be looking to impress once again, this time against his former side.

Verdict: Kelleher, Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk (C), Tsimikas

Crucial Return in Midfield?

Alexis Mac Allister will return to the starting lineup after being rested against Chelsea, with the Argentinian picking up a knock against Crystal Palace ahead of the break. He will be partnered by Ryan Gravenberch as the Dutchman looks to continue his stellar start to the season.

Ahead of them, Dominik Szoboszlai will drop to the bench with Curtis Jones coming into his role as the more advanced midfield option. The 23-year-old was untouchable against Chelsea on Sunday and will be looking to carry on that form against RB Leipzig.

Verdict: Mac Allister, Gravenberch, Jones

Nunez’s Opportunity

Darwin Nunez is set to finally get the run of games that he has been craving since the start of the season, with Diogo Jota sidelined through injury, The Uruguayan will play down the middle after a strong performance from the bench on Sunday.

Mohamed Salah will of course start on the right-wing, whilst Luis Diaz will come into the side in place of Cody Gakpo on the left. With Federico Chiesa also still injured, Slot’s attacking options are seriously depleted at the moment.

Verdict: Salah, Nunez, Diaz

Starting XI: Kelleher, Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk (C), Tsimikas, Mac Allister, Gravenberch, Jones, Salah, Nunez, Diaz

Bench: Jaros, Davies, Gomez, Quansah, Robertson, Endo, Szoboszlai, Morton, Nyoni, Gakpo,
