Focus on Winning the League Title, Not Contract Distractions
Liverpool’s charge for the Premier League title has reached a pivotal stage, yet much of the recent discourse has centred around contract uncertainties rather than the pursuit of silverware. On The Daily Red podcast from Anfield Index, Dave Davis and Grizz Khan made their frustrations clear—now is not the time for off-field speculation, but for an unrelenting focus on winning trophies.
Tired of the Contract Talks
For weeks, the conversation around Liverpool has been dominated by contract renewals, particularly those of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. While their long-term futures are undoubtedly significant, Grizz Khan voiced the exhaustion felt by many supporters: “For all the greatness we’re talking about with Van Dijk and Salah, the contract talk is a little bit boring at times, isn’t it? You just think, there is a league title to be won.”
Dave Davis echoed the sentiment, questioning why the discussion continues to overshadow Liverpool’s actual performances. “We’ve talked about them as elite players, we know how important they are, but let’s focus on the football.” The growing frustration stems from a belief that these distractions could derail Liverpool’s momentum in what is shaping up to be a historic season.

All Eyes on Trophies, Not Boardroom Decisions
Liverpool currently find themselves in a commanding position in the league, yet there remains an air of nervousness amongst supporters, with the weight of expectation growing. The team has multiple fronts to compete on, and as Grizz put it, “We are involved in four campaigns, and we’ve got a League Cup final to turn around as well.”
This is where the real focus should be. The opportunity to win multiple trophies this season is there for the taking, but as Davis pointed out, “We’re nine points clear, and we’re talking about things that can wait. This is the business end of the season.”
Liverpool have found themselves in similar situations before—moments where off-pitch noise has threatened to unsettle the dressing room. Grizz made it clear that such distractions must not become an issue: “We have to keep the focus on the here and now. Whatever happens with contracts, we’ll deal with it in the summer.”
Mentality of Champions
Liverpool’s ability to close out a season with a title at stake has been tested in previous campaigns, most notably in their battles with Manchester City. The lesson is clear—mental resilience is as important as tactical execution.
Davis stressed the significance of staying locked in: “If we start dropping points because heads are turned by boardroom matters, then we’ve only got ourselves to blame.” It is a crucial reminder that, in these defining months, the only thing that should matter is what happens on the pitch.
Grizz went even further, suggesting that anything less than a relentless pursuit of silverware would be a failure: “We’re here to win. Simple as that. Whatever happens with contracts, happens. But this team has a chance to write history.”
Shutting Out the Noise
With every passing week, Liverpool move closer to another Premier League title. The speculation surrounding Salah and Van Dijk will not go away overnight, but as Davis and Grizz emphasised, now is not the time to dwell on it.
Grizz summed up the mood perfectly: “The club is still working, still talking. I do expect them to stay. But I’m past it. I just want to focus on the campaign in hand.”
For Liverpool, the message is clear—forget the contract negotiations. There is a league to be won, trophies to be lifted, and history to be made.
