Liverpool XI vs Manchester City
It has been a fantastic week so far for the Reds, securing back-to-back wins against Aston Villa and Real Madrid.
But now, it’s the most important game of the season as Liverpool travel to the Etihad to face Man City.
League leaders Arsenal’s 2-2 draw at Sunderland last night has opened the door for the Reds to close the gap to five points with a win today. A victory would also see Arne Slot’s side move two points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s side, despite losing all four Premier League games in October.
Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid was undoubtedly performance of the season, with a couple of new summer signings finally settling in.
Giorgi Mamardashvili, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike all impressed and all three are expected to remain in the side for this crucial clash.
Liverpool Team News
Arne Slot confirmed that Alisson Becker is still sidelined with a hamstring injury, but could return for Liverpool’s clash with Nottingham Forest after the international break.
Jeremie Frimpong is expected to be out for another month with a hamstring injury too, whilst centre-back Giovanni Leoni is out for the season after suffering an ACL injury on his debut against Southampton in the Carabao Cup.
However, there are some positives. Curtis Jones returned to the squad in the victory over Real Madrid and remains available. Alexander Isak also trained on Friday and is expected to be part of the squad after recovering from a groin issue.
