Fabrizio Romano Provides Intriguing Liverpool Transfer Update
The January transfer window is now open and there’s plenty of speculation surrounding Liverpool.
Whilst a lot of the focus has been on potential incomings such as Marc Guehi and Joel Ordonez, there could be some departures this month too.
One of the names stealing the headlines at the moment is Harvey Elliott. Signed on loan from Aston Villa, with an obligation to buy for £35m after ten appearances, it’s fair to say that the move hasn’t quite worked out as planned.
The 22-year-old is set to return to Anfield this month, but the rules restrict him from joining another European club this season after already representing Liverpool and Aston Villa.
However, according to the latest report from Fabrizio Romano, an MLS move could be on the cards for the young midfielder…
MLS club in the race…
According to Romano, Charlotte FC are considering a move to sign Elliott on loan. Speaking on X, he said: “Charlotte FC are prepared to offer Harvey Elliott the chance to play on loan in the MLS until June.”
“Elliott, likely to return to Liverpool after being unused at Aston Villa on loan.”
“Decision up to the player.”

It’s a fascinating but frustrating situation. Elliott is far too good to be applying his trade in the MLS.
Some will be wondering why Arne Slot doesn’t seem his as a potential option to help his currently struggling Liverpool side.
In terms of forward planning, spending the second half of the season as a squad option at Liverpool will protect his value more than going on loan to the MLS.
It’ll be interesting to see what decision Elliott makes, if there’s even really a decision there to be made.
