£60m Liverpool signing ruled out for the season in major injury blow

Liverpool haven’t had much luck in the injury department so far this season. Conor Bradley, Alexander Isak and Giovanni Leoni have all suffered serious long-term injuries this season, with the latter suffering an ACL on his debut for the club back in September.

That luck has now seemingly continued with their latest signing Jeremy Jacquet. The Rennes defender will join the Reds in the summer in a deal worth £60m.

After sustaining a serious shoulder injury in Rennes’ defeat to Lens last month, Get Football News France are now reporting that the 20-year-old will now undergo surgery.

They also claim that the chances of him playing for Rennes again this season are ‘extremely slim.’

Therefore, the next time that Jacquet will be in action could be at the start of Liverpool’s pre-season.

It’s far from an ideal situation for all parties, with the youngster set to miss out on five months worth of valuable experience prior to his mega money move to Anfield.

Looking Ahead

Liverpool will be hoping that he arrives to pre-season fully fit. As Ibrahima Konate’s future remains uncertain, there’s a chance that he could be Virgil van Dijk’s centre-back partner next season.

Further defensive signings are expected by Liverpool this summer, but the £60m spent on Jacquet signals a clear level of trust and intent.
