Only a few weeks ago, the French international appeared optimistic about remaining on Merseyside. Speaking after Liverpool’s Merseyside derby victory, Konate insisted progress had been made.

“There are many things people have said but for a long time we have spoken with the club and we are close to an agreement.

“I think everyone wished for that for as soon as possible but we are in a good way.”

The defender also made his intentions clear regarding his future.

“For sure, there is a big chance that I’m here next season. This is what I’ve always wanted.

“I’m waiting to sort the contract but when everything is sorted you will have to ask Richard what I said to him in September, November before everyone talked about everything and he’s going to say something to make everyone quiet. When he’s going to reply, you will see. I just wish that.”

Those comments offered reassurance at the time. However, the lack of a breakthrough since then has only intensified speculation.

Ben Jacobs Provides Fresh Update on Konate Future

Recent developments have added further weight to concerns that Liverpool could lose the centre-back.

Transfer journalist Ben Jacobs delivered a stark assessment of the situation, writing in full:

“Ibrahima Konate is expected to leave Liverpool. No agreement has been reached between #LFC and the French defender despite Konate indicating in April an agreement was close.”

That update has fuelled fears that Liverpool may be preparing for life without one of the pillars of their defence.

At 27, Konate is entering what should be the peak years of his career. His blend of pace, physicality and aerial dominance has made him a key figure whenever fully fit. Losing a player of that calibre without securing a transfer fee would represent a significant setback for Liverpool’s recruitment strategy.

Konate arrived from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021 in a deal worth around £35 million. Since then, he has established himself as a regular presence in Liverpool’s back line.

His performances were not without criticism at times, but few would dispute his importance to Liverpool’s defensive structure.
