Cody Gakpo Transfer Latest as Liverpool Hold Firm Amid Tottenham Interest

Liverpool’s stance on Cody Gakpo appears clear for now, with the club showing no desire to encourage an exit despite interest from Tottenham. The latest update, credited to Fabrizio Romano on his YouTube channel, points towards a firm position at Anfield as the market develops.

Tottenham are exploring options for the wide attacking areas and Gakpo has been among the names under consideration. However, the indication is that north London attention is not fixed solely on the Netherlands international, with Savinho also featuring prominently in their thinking. That nuance matters, because it reduces the sense of immediate pressure around Liverpool and suggests Spurs may yet prioritise other routes.

“Cody Gakpo is a desire of Tottenham, but this depends on Liverpool at the moment. Liverpool are not opening the doors to an exit, so we have to be patient and see what’s going to happen there.”

That position aligns with the broader expectation around Liverpool’s summer planning. The club are reshaping under Andoni Iraola, and there is a strong logic to keeping an experienced forward who can operate from the left, centrally and across the front line. Even after a difficult 2025/26 campaign by his own standards, Gakpo remains a proven Premier League attacker with 50 goals in 180 appearances for Liverpool.

Players with his versatility, physicality and record in front of goal are not easy to replace, and certainly not cheaply.

What makes this more interesting is Iraola’s arrival. A new head coach often changes the picture for players who looked uncertain a few months earlier. Fresh ideas, a different structure and renewed competition can quickly revive a career. Gakpo feels like someone who could benefit from that reset.

There is also no obvious reason for Liverpool to rush towards a sale. Squad depth matters across a long season, particularly if the club want to respond strongly after last year’s drop-off. If Tottenham admire him, that is understandable. But from a Liverpool point of view, the answer should be simple unless the offer reaches a level that is impossible to ignore.

For now, keeping Gakpo and seeing what Iraola can unlock looks the smartest call. This one feels far more like market interest than a genuine exit in motion.
