Victor Munoz Ready for Liverpool Debut Against Monaco

Liverpool finally put a face, a voice and a timeframe on one of their quieter summer arrivals. Victor Munoz reported to the AXA Training Centre on Wednesday and, after weeks of limited visibility since his mid-June move, the Spain international has now made it clear that he is available for Sunday’s friendly against Monaco.

That matters. New signings do not need fanfare, but they do need minutes. Munoz has had a delayed start and Liverpool, now under Andoni Iraola, need him integrated quickly. The sooner he works in live match conditions with his new team-mates, the better.

In his first club interview, Munoz was asked directly whether he feels ready to make his Liverpool debut this weekend. His answer was straightforward, which is what you want from a player in this situation. “Well, I think I’m ready,” Liverpool’s new No. 23 answered.

Munoz fitness gives Iraola an option

There had been some uncertainty around his condition, largely because supporters had not seen him involved and there was little to assess. That uncertainty has now eased. Munoz says he is training normally and, more importantly, he sounds like a player expecting to be in contention rather than one building towards full fitness.

He said, “Obviously if the coach says so after training and asks me to feature in the starting XI, I’ll be there. I’m keen and I can’t wait to get started. [Against] Monaco, why not?”

That is the correct tone. No grand declarations, no empty promises, just availability. Iraola will decide whether that means a start or a shorter run-out, but Liverpool need to move beyond introductions and into practical use.

Liverpool debut would answer early questions

Munoz remains an unknown to a large section of the fanbase. His arrival was unexpected, and that naturally creates curiosity. A pre-season outing against Monaco will not settle every argument about his level or his role, but it would at least offer a first proper look at what Liverpool have bought.

Realistically, 45 minutes would make sense. There is no need to force the issue, but there is every reason to start the process. Liverpool have enough work to do after a disappointing 2025-26 campaign, and carrying new players into August without rhythm helps nobody.

Jeremy Jacquet still facing delay

For now, Munoz looks the most likely fresh face to feature. Jeremy Jacquet was still not involved in training on Wednesday, which suggests his recovery is taking longer than expected. That could change before the weekend, but at this stage there is no obvious reason to assume it will.

So the focus is on Munoz. He is fit, he is present and he says he is ready. For Liverpool, that should be enough to get the first look on Sunday.
