Liverpool Confidence Grows as Bradley Barcola Transfer Talks Reach Final Stage

Liverpool’s pursuit of Paris Saint Germain forward Bradley Barcola appears to be moving towards the decisive phase, with David Lynch suggesting there is growing confidence that a deal will eventually be completed.

Speaking to Dave Davis on Anfield Index’s Media Matters podcast, Lynch discussed the continued interest in Barcola, PSG’s stance and why the transfer may always have been destined to run deep into the final days of the window.

The message was clear. Liverpool remain interested, PSG remain part of the conversation and patience may ultimately determine the final price.

PSG Comments Offer Fresh Barcola Clues

Davis highlighted recent comments from PSG sporting director Luis Campos, who had been discussing the club’s transfer activity and the situations surrounding Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye.

Campos said: “The window isn’t over,” while also indicating that PSG remained open to both arrivals and departures.

Davis also referenced Campos discussing the Gianluigi Donnarumma transfer and how that deal had gone right to the end of a previous window.

His interpretation was that Liverpool supporters may simply have to endure the wait.

“You kind of get the feeling that he was given a few clues,” Davis said, before adding that the Barcola situation was “annoyingly going to be agreed on a price right near the end probably at some point.”

That possibility fits with the wider conversation around Liverpool’s transfer strategy during the closing stages of the market.

Lynch Sees Logic in Liverpool Waiting

Lynch admitted that the precise reason for the delay remains difficult to establish.

“It is frustrating we don’t get sometimes like more insight into exactly why that works for both,” he said.

He suggested there could be several possible factors involved, including “accounting periods”, “loyalty bonuses” or Liverpool attempting to take advantage of increasing time pressure on PSG.

Lynch added: “You never really get the full story around these things.”

What appears more significant is the willingness of everyone involved to allow negotiations to reach this stage.

“It seems interesting that all parties are absolutely committing to doing this as late as possible in the window for some reason,” Lynch said.

He believes there will be a logical explanation behind that approach and expects Liverpool’s patience to influence the eventual financial package.

Liverpool Expected to Secure Better Barcola Price

One of the more significant points from Lynch concerned the potential cost of signing Barcola.

He argued that Liverpool should ultimately secure a better agreement than would have been possible earlier in the summer.

“I’m sure Liverpool will get him at a price that will make the idea that they should have gone at the very start of the window and put down, you know, 170 million or whatever for him look absolutely daft,” Lynch said.

“I’m pretty sure they’re going to get a better deal than that.”

His view was that this particular agreement may simply have required Liverpool to wait.

“That deal was only there to be done later in the window,” he added.

Confidence Growing Over Barcola Deal

Perhaps the strongest part of Lynch’s assessment concerned the likelihood of the transfer actually happening.

“I think you can have confidence it will get done,” he told Davis.

“I think all the mood music from Liverpool, from the PSG side as well is that it will get done.”

Lynch therefore characterised the situation as “just a wait and see”, with the transfer window now approaching its conclusion.

He went even further when discussing his expectation for the final days.

“I expect Barcola to get over the line,” Lynch said, adding: “I think that’s good news. I think he’s a good player.”

For Liverpool, the coming days now appear decisive. The pursuit has lasted through much of the summer, yet Lynch’s assessment suggests the delay itself should not necessarily be interpreted negatively.

The expectation around Anfield Index’s Media Matters discussion was that Barcola remains a likely Liverpool signing, with the remaining issue centred on when PSG and Liverpool finally agree the price.
