Liverpool Complete Lucca Brughmans Transfer in Deal Worth Up to £30m
Liverpool have moved decisively to secure one of Europe’s most highly regarded young goalkeepers, completing the signing of Lucca Brughmans from Genk in a package that could reach £30m including add-ons.
The 18-year-old has agreed a six-year contract, with the structure of the deal allowing him to remain on loan at Genk for the current season before making the move to Anfield ahead of the 2027-28 campaign. It is understood the agreement includes an initial fee, alongside performance-related payments, with the full £30m figure dependent on targets being met.

Lucca Brughmans Deal Reflects Long-Term Liverpool Plan
Brughmans is already attracting attention in Belgium. Standing at 6ft 7in, he has started all four of Genk’s matches this season and has also featured for Belgium at youth level. Liverpool’s decision to act early points to a long-term succession plan in a key area of the squad.
There is no immediate change to the senior goalkeeping group, with Alisson, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Freddie Woodman and Vitezslav Jaros currently among the options available to Andoni Iraola. However, with Alisson’s contract due to expire next summer and uncertainty around Mamardashvili’s longer-term future, Brughmans is being positioned as a potential first-team option from summer 2027.
Liverpool Youth Recruitment Continues to Accelerate
The move is another example of Liverpool’s growing focus on elite teenage recruitment, driven by the club’s global talent department under Matt Newberry. Brughmans joins a developing pipeline of high-upside arrivals identified well before they reach the most inflated end of the market.
Earlier this year, Liverpool added Senegal centre-back Mor Talla N’diaye and Austrian defender Ifeanyi Ndukwe after both impressed at the Under-17 World Cup in Qatar. In the past 12 months, goalkeeper Armin Pecsi and midfielder Samuel Martinez have also arrived from Hungary and Colombia respectively, with Pecsi currently spending the season on loan at TSV Hartberg.
