Alexander Isak Finding Rhythm as Liverpool Eye More Goals and Bradley Barcola Impact

Strikers live on moments, but the best of them build careers on rhythm. Alexander Isak knows that better than most after a first year at Liverpool that kept getting interrupted just as it seemed ready to catch fire. Now, with the new season under way and the goals already flowing, there is a sense that the centre-forward is moving into the groove that supporters have waited to see.

Three goals in four appearances at the start of 2026-27 tell part of the story. The bigger point is that he looks sharp, involved and hungry. At Ipswich Town last week he produced two excellent finishes in a 2-0 win, the sort of goals that announce confidence as much as class. After so many stop-start moments in his debut campaign, that matters.

Isak fitness offers Liverpool real encouragement

Fitness has been the key issue. Isak started only 13 times last season after an ankle injury, including a fibula fracture, suffered while scoring at Tottenham Hotspur in December, wrecked his momentum. That kind of setback can leave a player wondering when normal service will resume. For now, at least, he sounds like a man who has got himself back into a better place. Speaking to the LFC Website ahead of the Fulham game:

“Firstly, really good that the season has started again – obviously you miss it being away,” said the Sweden international.

He added, “I’m feeling good with the pre-season and the start of the season as well, scoring a couple of goals. It’s just about keeping this rhythm.”

That line matters. Good forwards can score in bursts. Top forwards make a habit of it. Liverpool need Isak available, moving well and playing regularly. So far, with 332 minutes already under his belt from four starts, he is giving every sign of being ready to shoulder that burden.

Goalscoring form reflects growing confidence

The finish at Ipswich was eye-catching, but what stood out was the authority in his play. There was no sense of a striker feeling his way back. He looked decisive. He looked certain. Most importantly, he looked like a player enjoying the craft again.

“That [his display versus Ipswich] is how I want to play and that’s how I want to score goals. I was certainly happy with that. But as I said, it’s early days and I’ve got to keep going.

“I feel good, I feel like I’m in a good place. With the team as well, we’re getting better and better. We want to keep this rhythm.”

There is no chest-thumping there, no overblown noise. Just the calm words of a player who understands the job is never finished. That tends to go down well on Merseyside.

Liverpool fans stayed with him through setbacks

Support at Anfield can lift a player, and it can also carry one through the rough patches. Isak clearly felt that during the long weeks when his body would not cooperate and his season kept slipping from his grasp.

“It has been challenging of course, with a lot of injuries especially,” he said of the past 12 months.

“But there have been some beautiful moments as well, good learning moments. I take all of that as stuff to help me get better and get stronger, not looking back too much and just focusing on what’s ahead.

“[The backing of Liverpool fans] means a lot. Obviously, I’ve known and seen how brilliant the fans are at this football club.

“I was really excited about coming here and being a part of that relationship between the club and the players and the fans. You can really feel that. It’s really something valuable.

“It’s brilliant support all the time, even during difficult times for the team. They have been brilliant so far as long as I’ve been here.”

Bradley Barcola adds another threat in attack

There is another reason for optimism. Bradley Barcola made his first start alongside Isak in midweek, and the striker sounded genuinely enthused by what that partnership could become. Liverpool have added quality, pace and unpredictability, and good forwards tend to enjoy working with clever players who can shift defenders out of shape.

“Of course, it’s a big signing for us and he’s a great player that we all know very well from what he’s done previously,” said Isak.

“I’m sure he’s going to be someone to help make us much better as a team. So, we’re really excited.”

That excitement will be shared in the stands. If Isak stays fit, keeps his rhythm and gets regular service, Liverpool’s attack could begin to look properly dangerous.
