Liverpool Could Consider January Loan for Will Wright After Impressive Hat-Trick

Liverpool youngster Will Wright has emerged as a potential candidate for a January loan move following another impressive performance at youth level, with journalist David Lynch suggesting the striker could soon benefit from experiencing senior football.

Speaking to Dave Davis on Anfield Index’s Media Matters podcast, Lynch discussed Wright’s development after the forward scored a hat-trick and registered an assist in Liverpool’s UEFA Youth League fixture.

The conversation raised an important question for Liverpool’s academy staff and head coach Andoni Iraola: how much longer should Wright remain in youth football when his performances suggest he is ready for a greater challenge?

David Lynch Raises Possibility of January Loan

During the podcast, Davis highlighted Wright’s latest goalscoring display, praising one of his finishes and questioning whether the youngster had already outgrown his current level.

“Will Wright is almost too good for under-21 level at this,” Davis remarked.

Lynch responded by suggesting Liverpool could revisit the striker’s immediate future midway through the campaign.

“You wonder whether they kind of get to the halfway point of this season and start to think about a loan because he’s scoring so prolifically now.”

The journalist also pointed towards Wright’s physical development as a reason to consider the next stage of his career.

“His build looks like it’s ready for men’s football as well. He’s a big lad.”

For Liverpool, the discussion centres on whether continuing at academy level provides Wright with the challenges required to develop further.

Liverpool Youngster Will Wright Impresses With Physical Development

Lynch’s assessment of Wright extended beyond his goalscoring record, with particular praise reserved for the striker’s strength and willingness to compete physically.

“He throws himself about. There’s a moment in yesterday’s game where he kind of turns a ball in behind, just a scrappy kick over the top, into something because he just batters his man out the way.”

That physicality, Lynch suggested, could become particularly important when Wright eventually makes the transition into senior football.

“He looks so capable in terms of that. And obviously he’s going to struggle to do that in men’s football, but he can’t get there unless he gets the experience to do so.”

The challenge of adapting to stronger, more experienced defenders formed an important part of Lynch’s argument for considering a loan.

“So I wonder whether there’s going to be chat around a kind of loan move for him because he’s just finding it too easy at the moment really.”

Liverpool’s UEFA Youth League Victory Highlights Wright’s Potential

Wright’s performance against LASK provided further evidence of his development, with Liverpool recovering from two goals down to secure a 4-2 victory. The striker scored three times and assisted Luca Eden’s goal.

Lynch was particularly impressed by Wright’s contribution to Eden’s finish.

“I loved his assist for Eden as well because it was just the composure and getting his head up, not taking the shot on selfishly.”

The journalist praised Wright’s awareness in recognising the opportunity to create a straightforward finish for his team-mate.

“He plays him in for a tap-in and so yeah, three goals and an assist. He was absolutely fantastic.”

Lynch also referred to Wright’s performances in the EFL Trophy, another competition in which the youngster has impressed.

“He’s looked good in the Papa John’s or whatever it’s called these days. I can’t even think what they’re calling it now.”

His assessment of the striker’s current form was unequivocal.

“He’s just a really good young player who’s in great form.”

For Liverpool, the next decision concerns how best to build upon those performances. Wright has demonstrated his ability to score regularly at academy level, while his physical attributes have also caught Lynch’s attention.

The possibility of a January loan remains a suggestion rather than a confirmed decision. However, the argument presented during Media Matters was clear: Wright’s progress deserves consideration when Liverpool assess their young players’ development plans midway through the season.
