Liverpool had a bright start to their Premier League campaign and have continued to impress, while Burnley are yet to find their footing in the current season after gaining promotion from the Championship last season.

The Reds opened the exit door for some notable names over the summer in a bid to overhaul their midfield with the likes of Brazilian midfielder Fabinho and former club captain Jordan Henderson leaving for Saudi club sides Al-Ittihad and Al-Ettifaq respectively. James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Roberto Firmino joined Brighton, Werder Bremen, Besiktas, and Al-Ahli on free transfers. At the same time, Fabio Carvalho and Nathan Phillips left on loan to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig and Scottish Premiership champions Celtic, respectively.

Jurgen Klopp’s new midfield features  World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister who signed from Brighton and Hove Albion, Dominik Szoboszlai who joined from RB Leipzig, Dutchman Ryan Gravenberg from Bayern Munich, and Japanese midfielder Wataru Endo from VFB Stuttgart.

Burnley, looking forward to life back in the Premier League, was quite busy regarding player acquisitions over the summer. The Clarets brought in center-forward Zeki Amdouni from Swiss club side Basel, English young and exciting talents James Trafford from Manchester City and Aaron Ramsey from Aston Villa, Jordan Beyer from Borussia M’gladbach, Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge from Sheffield United, Luka Koleosho from RCD Espanyol B, Wilson Odobert from Estac Troyes, Irish center-back Dara O’Shea from West Bromwich Albion, Michael Obafemi from Swansea and Hannes Delcroix from RSC Anderlecht.

Other signings include Nathan Redmond on a free transfer from Besiktas and Mike Tresor who signed on loan from KRC Genk.

Departures from the ranks of the Clarets include Bobby Thomas to Coventry, Wout Weghorst on loan to TSG Hoffenheim with Ashley Barnes and Will Norris joining Norwich and Portsmouth respectively on free transfers.

The 23/24 Premier League season kicked off for Liverpool with a 1-1 stalemate against Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea. After that draw, the Reds went ahead to win their next five games, putting the likes of Bournemouth, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and West Ham United to the sword. A defeat at the hands of Postecoglou’s Spurs ended that impressive run.

Liverpool are the form side of the Premier League, unbeaten in their last five matches with 4 wins and 1 draw. A 3-0 Anfield win against Brentford started this impressive run. A 1-1 draw away at the Etihad with champions Manchester City was followed by three consecutive victories against Fulham, Sheffield United, and Crystal Palace respectively.

Burnley on the other hand had the worst possible start to their Premier League campaign after the Clarets lost 3-0 to reigning champions Manchester City in their season opener. It took the champions four minutes to breach Burnley’s defense as Haaland smashed home a Rodri-headed assist. The Norwegian grabbed his second off a Julian Alvarez assist before Rodri scored a goal of his own, coolly slotting home after the Clarets failed to clear their lines. Their misery continued as the Clarets failed to win a match from the five that followed, managing just 1 draw and suffering 4 defeats.

Burnley’s first win of the season came against Premier League newbies and fellow strugglers Luton Town with the Clarets coming out on top of that game with a 2-1 win. Their woes would however continue as the Clarets have managed just 2 wins and 2 draws while suffering 12 defeats so far this season.

Liverpool’s brilliant form sees them sit at the summit of the Premier League standings having gathered 37 points from 16 games while Burnley’s measly 8 points from 16 games see them remain stuck in the doldrums of the Premier League standings.

Head-to-head statistics for this fixture show Liverpool to be the overwhelming favorite. Liverpool and Burnley have played 16 Premier League matches between them and The Reds have won 12 (scoring 33 goals) while The Clarets have won 2 (scoring 10 goals) with 2 draws.

Liverpool’s then-then pressing and incisive attacking play coupled with the atmosphere their supporters are sure to create at Anfield is expected to be too much for Burnley to handle. The Reds should be able to dispatch the visitors with relative ease.
