Unveiling the Nuances of Gakpo’s Role at Liverpool
It’ll hurt yesterday for a while and that’s ok. In the throes of football fervour, where the line between hero and scapegoat is as thin as a matchday ticket, the discourse around Cody Gakpo’s recent performance for Liverpool unfurls a tapestry of opinions, complexities, and, perhaps, misplaced criticisms. As the dust settles on a matchday filled with tension and high stakes, a deeper analysis beckons us to look beyond the surface.
Cody Gakpo’s instagram comment section… seriously pathetic.
As soon as a player hits bad form there’s a trend to do this which has no positive impact whatsoever. pic.twitter.com/prYVCIRLuT

Unravelling Gakpo’s Performance
Gakpo’s journey this season has been marked by a tumultuous blend of anticipation and frustration. Touted as Liverpool’s first-choice No. 9 at the beginning, his transition into the Premier League has been a spectacle of highs and lows. However, the lens of scrutiny focused sharply on him after a recent match where Liverpool’s aspirations tangled with the harsh realities of football’s unpredictability. Despite the consensus that Gakpo struggled, attributing the entirety of Liverpool’s shortcomings to him misses the broader picture. He’s fifth out of five senior forwards at the moment of that there can be no doubt.
Shadows Behind The Spotlight
In the crucible of Premier League football, where every pass and tackle is magnified, Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott’s roles in the recent outcome demands attention. Their overall contributions to the team have indeed been significant, but critical moments of lapse cannot be overshadowed by brighter performances. It’s the nature of team sports; brilliance and blunders are shared amongst comrades-in-arms. Why Nunez decided to try a ridiculous square ball so late in the game instead of passing back to Tsimikas and why Elliott chose to let it bounce that way is anyone’s guess. The fact we had a two-on-one against us in the last minute of extra time needs looking at too.
Think everyone needs to calm down when talking about Gakpo
No doubt he’s in very poor form and I think it’s fine to call that out or say others should be ahead of him
However plastering over his social media telling him to get out the club is wrong

Some Mitigation
There does need to be a balance and fairness to everything, which will be hard to find within after yesterday. Gakpo was poor and at times we needed him to run hard and keep the ball it didn’t happen. Yet for a player who’s standing at thirteen goals and five assists and who’s played in at least four positions this season, there is a sense of mitigation overall. Yet for all the technical ability he has, questions understandably remain about his suitability for Liverpool in the long-term. That being said, he wasn’t in the main reasons why Liverpool lost yesterday. We’ve alls even the social media bits too and some of it is just ridiculous.
