When Dutch boss Arne Slot took over from club legend Jurgen Klopp, not many would have predicted that the Feyenoord manager would secure major honours in his first season, but he did just that, helping Liverpool to a second-ever Premier League title, and more importantly the first domestic success secured in front of their own fans in over thirty years (the title win under Klopp coming during the coronavirus pandemic).
This summer will, however, no doubt see Slot make significant changes to his squad as he looks to put his personal stamp on a squad that is largely made up of players brought in during Klopp’s nine-year spell in charge, and there are already strong rumours about multiple changes on the defensive flanks.
Liverpool fans who believe Slot can secure back-to-back Premier League titles or perhaps mount a big run in the UEFA Champions League can back those aspirations with this amazing Caesars promo code, which will help make any wager closer to risk-free.
For much of the campaign, many Reds fans were concerned about the futures of three key players, all of whom were set to be out of contract at the end of the season. Fortunately, Slot managed to persuade both Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah to put pen to paper on new deals, but the third, Trent Alexander-Arnold, opted against doing so and completed his move to Real Madrid.
His departure and the fact that left-back Andy Robertson has failed to hit his usual heights, has led to marked speculation of two new full-backs heading to Merseyside. One player seemingly certain to join the club is Dutch international Jeremie Frimpong, who is apparently set to complete his medical with Liverpool, leaving Bayer Leverkusen after winning the double in Germany in 2023/24.
Frimpong is seen as a replacement for Alexander-Arnold, albeit Northern Irish international Conor Bradley looks like a ready-made option that Slot can call upon. On the possibility of bringing in new recruits, Slot commented.
“I’ve said many times already that we, as a club, are very happy with the players we’ve got,”
“Part of it is our decision, but in some situations, players that haven’t played a lot are not looking forward to another season not playing a lot.”
“So, there’s always an ongoing process and we have to make sure that we are prepared if we can strengthen the squad.”
“But it’s difficult to strengthen this squad. There’s a reason why we won the league – because we have so many great players.” Slot added.
As regards a replacement for Robertson, impressive Bournemouth wide-man Milos Kerkez is seen by many as the most likely target, with the 21-year-old Hungarian international proving very impressive at the Vitality Stadium this season.
Slot won’t need to make root and branch changes to his squad, albeit he may feel that new additions could freshen up things and help to keep players on their toes. Securing those Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah deals was imperative and offers him more breathing room for the foreseeable future, albeit both players are clearly in the latter stages of their glittering careers.
