Now 22, the defender departs Anfield having achieved a childhood dream and leaves behind a message of deep gratitude to teammates, staff and supporters. His words reflect a mature figure who grew up under the club’s roof and developed into a senior professional.

“From the moment I walked through the doors of the Academy at 5 years old, I dreamed of one day wearing the Liverpool shirt at Anfield,” Quansah wrote. “17 years later, I can now say I have lived that dream.”

It was a classy goodbye that captured the humility and maturity that have long defined his character within Kirkby and beyond.

Progression to first-team status

Quansah made 58 appearances for Liverpool’s senior side and scored three goals, earning the trust of Jurgen Klopp during the 2023/24 campaign. That season marked his true breakthrough, with strong performances in domestic and European competitions highlighting his potential.

“To my teammates, thank you for welcoming me, pushing me, and believing in me,” he continued. “I’ve learned so much from sharing the pitch and dressing room with such amazing people and will never forget the incredible memories we’ve had.”

His rise was one of the success stories of Klopp’s final year at the helm, and his exit this summer speaks to the shift underway as Arne Slot begins shaping his version of Liverpool.

Deal structure and strategic exit

Quansah’s move is worth £35 million, making him Leverkusen’s record signing. Importantly, Liverpool have retained a buy-back clause, which becomes active from 2027 and is valued at €60 million (£51.6 million), offering the possibility of a future return if his development continues apace.

He follows Trent Alexander-Arnold and Caoimhin Kelleher as the third academy product to depart this summer, underlining the scale of the changes being implemented by the club’s new coaching regime.

“To the staff, the coaches, and everyone behind the scenes, your belief and dedication have always been a constant source of motivation. You have helped me grow not only as a footballer, but as a person as well,” Quansah wrote.

Lasting legacy and future ambition

Quansah leaves with both a League Cup and a Premier League medal to his name, rare achievements for an academy graduate. His story is one of hard work, perseverance and adaptability.

His message to Liverpool fans made clear how much the club continues to mean to him: “Your support has always been unmatched. Whether at Anfield or away from home, hearing you sing never failed to inspire me. I will carry that with me wherever I go.

“Liverpool will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s not just a club, it’s a family. This is goodbye for now, but I’ll always be watching — once a Red, always a Red.”

A fitting tribute from a player whose loyalty and growth have never gone unnoticed.
