Most Liverpool supporters are already looking forward to the 2025/26 Premier League season, especially considering their club’s recent transfer activity. Arne Slot surprisingly led the Reds to the title last season, despite the bookies making his side a distant third favourite behind Manchester City and Arsenal. Now, the Dutch boss has significantly strengthened with two marquee additions from Bayer Leverkusen, and the Merseysiders most certainly won’t be long shots again next term.
But before Liverpool kick off the new campaign against Bournemouth at Anfield on August 15th, there is plenty of football still to be played this summer. Both the Under 21 European Championship and the FIFA Club World Cup have kept fans on the edge of their seat, but the best could be set to come. That, of course, is the upcoming Women’s Euro in Switzerland, and here are two reasons why every Reds supporter should be invested.
Can the Lionesses Defend Their Crown?
Three years ago, England’s Lionesses made history as they claimed the title for the first time ever. Now, the bookies make them contenders once again. Online football betting odds providers currently make Sarina Wiegman’s side an 11/8 favourite to win Group D, but if they are to do so, they will have to come through the Group of Death.
England have been drawn alongside both France and the Netherlands in the group stage this summer, an unenviable task. Websites offering Women’s EUROs betting make the former of that duo a 6/4 shot to top the group, with the Dutch just behind at 5/2. But the Lionesses have far loftier expectations than simply topping the group.
Three years ago, England romped to the title. Chloe Kelly’s goal deep into extra time under the arch at Wembley sparked never-before-seen scenes in English women’s football, and now they are aiming to somehow repeat those heroics. Stars such as Mary Earps and Millie Bright are no longer in the squad for one reason or another, and now the likes of Lauren James, Alessia Russo, and aforementioned match winner Kelly must step up to the plate.

Wales’ Liverpool Connection
The final team rounding out England’s Group of Death are rank outsiders Wales, who will feature at the Women’s European Championships for the first time. While the Dragons haven’t been given much of a hope at progressing past the group stage, they do boast not one but two Liverpool starlets in their squad.
The first of those is experienced defender Gemma Evans. The centre back has amassed an impressive 77 caps for her country throughout her career, and she will be starting in the Welsh backline alongside the veteran Rhiannon Roberts. Evans joined Liverpool last summer after winning the FA Cup with rivals Manchester United, and now she will be aiming to make a lasting impression on the continental stage.
She is joined in the Welsh camp by club teammate Ceri Holland, a player who has been the star of the show with Liverpool across the last four years. She headed to Merseyside in 2021 after a three-year stint playing professionally in America with the Kansas Jayhawks. The midfielder had a disappointing campaign with the Reds last term, but she remains arguably Wales’ best player, and much of the nation’s hopes will lie on her shoulders this summer.
