Liverpool have a serious problem and Arne Slot needs to ‘put it right’
Liverpool’s 2-0 win at West Ham United provided a rare glimmer of hope after an absymal run of results, which has left Arne Slot on the brink.
The victory over the Hammers was only Liverpool’s fourth win in their last 13 games across all competitions.
As much as it is a boost, it can’t be used to completely forget about the vulnerabilities of this side.
Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock spoke exclusively to Anfield Index, courtesy of WhichBookie, and was keen to point out that there are still major issues that need correcting…
Liverpool’s ‘biggest problem’
“I’d say the biggest problem has been the lack of consistency from individual players,” said Warnock, “We’re seeing a good performance one week and then the next week it drops again.”
That kind of form you could understand from some of Liverpool’s new signings, who are still adjusting to the Premier League.
However, the performances of the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Alexis Mac Allister, Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo have frustrated lots of supporters.
In fact, you’d struggle to name another player other than Dominik Szoboszlai who has enjoyed a conistently good season so far for the Reds.

Warnock was also keen to point out Liverpool’s struggles out of possession.
“I think Liverpool have been really poor out of possession this season,” said Warnock, “There’s too much turnover of possession and the counter-attacks against them is something that they’re really suffering from.”
“You saw it straight away against Bournemouth in the opening game of the season and they’ve still not put it right.”
That lack of adjustment and change has been one of the most frustrating aspects of Liverpool’s season so far. Prior to the changes against West Ham United, it felt like Slot’s side were sleepwalking through games and just waiting for things to click.
It was good to see Slot finally make some much-needed changes, but there’s still plenty of work to be done.
