Rodrygo future opens up as Fabrizio Romano update links Liverpool again
Liverpool find themselves in unfamiliar territory, sitting eighth in the Premier League table after fourteen matches and struggling to rediscover the fluency that carried them to the title under their new manager. A narrow weekend victory at West Ham provided only a brief lift before Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with newly promoted Sunderland at Anfield brought the mood sharply back to reality. For a side rebuilt at vast expense and expected to defend their crown, the early season narrative has veered off course.
Rodrygo Interest Reignited at Liverpool
Arne Slot is attempting to steady a squad that has yet to translate its summer investment into consistency. Liverpool’s record outlay of around £450 million saw headline arrivals such as Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, but the attack still feels short of rhythm. The sense that something must shift has grown with each laboured performance and speculation has mounted that the club could seek further reinforcements.
That conversation intensified following the latest Fabrizio Romano update, which confirmed that two major Premier League suitors are no longer in the running for long standing Liverpool target Rodrygo. The Real Madrid forward, once one of the brightest attacking prospects in Europe, is enduring a brutal stretch under head coach Xabi Alonso, currently on a 31 game run without a goal. His form and his situation have opened the door to renewed interest from clubs who once battled for him as a teenager at Santos.

Romano Details Shifting Landscape Around Rodrygo
Madrid are understood to be willing to consider offers from £75 million upwards and the player’s contract, which runs until 2028, has not prevented several clubs from monitoring the situation. Liverpool have admired him for years, competing heavily for his signature before his eventual move to Spain in 2019. Arsenal and Chelsea were both believed to be exploring potential moves of their own, yet Romano has now stated that neither London club are active in the race.
“So, on the reports on the future of Rodrygo: 0% about Chelsea,” Romano told his YouTube audience.
“Forget about Rodrygo and Chelsea. We keep having that kind of rumours. There is nothing for January.
“Also about Arsenal, that story is not true. Arsenal are not working on a deal for Rodrygo in the January transfer window.
“The situation with Rodrygo: could he leave Real Madrid in 2026? My answer is yes.
“It’s a possibility if they receive a good proposal. And when I say “they,” it’s Rodrygo and it’s Real Madrid. Both sides, that could be a possibility.
“Man City wanted him last summer. Let’s see what’s going to happen in 2026. At the moment it’s still quiet, so still trying to find an internal solution to the problem, with Rodrygo reacting, scoring maybe a goal, breaking this bad moment, and trying to move forward.
“Then, if that’s not going to be possible, I think we should keep the doors open in 2026 for a potential transfer for Rodrygo.”
These remarks underline that while a January move appears unlikely, the long term picture remains fluid. Liverpool’s continued admiration for the 24 year old adds intrigue, especially given their current need for sharper attacking ideas.
Rodrygo Struggles Under Alonso’s System
Rodrygo’s struggles have surprised observers who still see him as one of the world’s finest attacking talents. He chose to stay in Madrid last summer to compete for his place under Alonso, but competition remains fierce. With Arda Guler, Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius, Jude Bellingham and others ahead of him, the Brazilian has found both starts and rhythm hard to come by. A player of such quality rarely benefits from extended spells on the periphery and the situation may soon reach a natural crossroads.
For Liverpool, assessing Rodrygo’s availability comes at a moment when the club is searching for energy, clarity and a more incisive edge in the final third. If his circumstances remain unchanged at Madrid, the conversation around this long standing link will only grow louder.
