Exclusive: Liverpool have held talks with potential Arne Slot replacement

Liverpool’s title defence has been nothing short of an absolute disaster. Currently sitting 9th in the Premier League table, and with just four wins from their last 15 games across all competitions, pressure is rising on head coach Arne Slot.

Sources have revealed to Anfield Index that sporting director Richard Hughes has held initial talks with Como head coach Cesc Fabregas and his representatives over the role.

Interestingly, there is an informal agreement with the Serie A club, which would allow him to leave for three clubs that he played for; Barcelona, Arsenal or Chelsea.

Whilst Liverpool aren’t included in that agreement, the Spaniard hadn’t anticipated an opportunity like this to arise.

Senior figures at Liverpool are impressed by his style of play, which mirrors what Slot had intended to implement this season, and consider the former midfielder as a potential option for a long-term project.

Fabregas has impressed massively since becoming head coach of the Italian side and currently have Como sat 6th in Serie A.

He isn’t the only name being considered by the Reds.

However, Liverpool aren’t rushed into making an immediate decision on Slot’s future following Mohamed Salah’s outburst after the 3-3 draw at Leeds United. They cannot be seen to cave in to player power, which puts any decision or movement on hold.

The Liverpool hierarchy will only make a decision on their own terms and once they believe that the situation has become untenable.
