Liverpool Transfers: Brazilian Wonderkid Could be Set to Make Anfield Switch
With the January transfer window approaching, many Liverpool fans are hoping for some more signings to come through the door at Anfield.
Giovanni Leoni’s ACL injury has left Arne Slot short of options at centre-back, whilst Alexander Isak is set for a spell on the sidelines with a suspected leg break.
However, despite the need for reinforcements in those positions, some reports are suggesting there will be action in other areas of the pitch.
According to Gremio insider Fabio Vargas, 17-year-old Gabriel Mec is on their radar and a move could happen in the next couple of weeks…
Liverpool Expected to Bid for Mec
Speaking on X, Vargas claimed a bid from Liverpool is imminent and could land as early as next week.
“Gremio is expected to receive from Liverpool, of England, a proposal above €15m for 17-year-old Gabriel Mec,” said Vargas.
“The official proposal is expected to arrive early this week,” continued Vargas, “Rejecting the proposal is out of the question, but the club will try to increase that amount, considered good.”

Who is Gabriel Mec?
Mec is naturally an attacking midfielder and is one of the most exciting talents to come out of South America in recent years.
A number of top European clubs have held reported interest in the 17-year-old, including the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea.
The South American market is one that Liverpool have rarely delved into, especially compared to their Premier League rivals.
Manchester City have been especially good at it. Names like Gabriel Jesus and Julian Alvarez went on to become hits at the Etihad after making the switch from South America.
Chelsea have seemingly hit the jackpot with the signing of Estevao, once again highlighting the untapped potential in that market.
Liverpool will be hoping for a trick of their own and if they were to sign Mec for anything near the price being quoted, then it would be exceptional business.
