Liverpool Transfers: Fabrizio Romano Confirms Interest in French Defender
With just one week remaining in the January transfer window, it is starting to like Liverpool won’t be bringing any players in.
Despite long-term injuries to Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni, as well as Joe Gomez struggling for fitness and Andy Robertson seemingly heading towards the exit door, the Reds aren’t being dragged into the action.
On top of that, you have Ibrahima Konate’s contract set to expire in June, where he is expected to leave on a free transfer.
It’s simple. Liverpool need a defender.

Liverpool Interested in Jeremy Jacquet
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano discusses the future of Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet and named Liverpool as a potential suitor:
“Rennes want to keep the player in the January transfer window. They believe that he could only leave for crazy money and they want a record fee.”
“They want around €60-70m, but Chelsea only wanted to pay around €40-50m. But there is a possibility that a deal could be agreed for him to leave the club in the summer.”
“Chelsea are in the race to sign him for the summer. Liverpool and Bayern Munich are also interested and following the player.”
“These three clubs are involved in the race for Jacquet. Let’s see who is going to win this race. It is going to be a big battle.”
Who is Jeremy Jacquet?
Jacquet is a 20-year-old defender currently playing for Rennes in Ligue 1. The Frenchman is one of the most highly-rated defenders in Europe, hence the interest from these three elite clubs.
He has made 18 appearances so far this season and has put in a number of really impressive performances.
He’s incredibly comfortable with the ball at his feet, ranking in the 90th percentile for touches from a centre-back. Remarkably, he sits in the 93rd percentile for chances created.
But it’s not just on the ball where he impresses, he is also a very strong defender. He has won 73% of his aerial duels this season and 65% of his duels.
