Arne Slot Expected to Stay at Liverpool Until End of Season Despite Mounting Pressure

Liverpool manager Arne Slot is expected to remain in charge until the end of the season, despite a difficult run of form that has seen the club win just six of their last 19 Premier League fixtures. That’s according to journalist Lewis Steele, who addressed the growing uncertainty around Slot’s position while speaking to Dave Davis on Media Matters for Anfield Index.

Slot’s Position Not Under Immediate Threat

Steele, when asked about the Dutchman’s future, made it clear that while pressure has been rising on Merseyside, the expectation from within the club is that Slot will be given until the end of the campaign before any major decisions are made.

“All the noise is that Slot’s going to be here this time in the end of the summer,” Steele said, adding, “So there’s no point in fighting about it. There’s no point in, you know, having a go at each other online. Just get behind the manager until the summer.”

That message comes during a tense period, with Liverpool currently sitting sixth in the Premier League table. Despite high expectations following Slot’s title-winning debut season in 2024-25, the Reds have endured a frustrating spell of inconsistency that has left supporters divided.

Mixed Opinions Among Supporters

Steele was balanced in acknowledging both sides of the fanbase debate. “You can criticise Arne Slot, you can dislike him all you want,” he said. “I sort of see those sides of the argument very clearly, as well as I see the other side of the argument, if people do think that, you know, he should be given time to change things.”

However, Steele stressed that whether supporters are ‘Slot in’ or ‘Slot out’, the club’s stance is to back the current manager through the end of the season.

Champions League and FA Cup Still in Sight

Despite their inconsistent league form, Liverpool remain in contention for both the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup, and Steele pointed out that the season still holds plenty of promise if the team can rally.

“They could win the Champions League. They could win the FA Cup. They probably will get in the Champions League places,” he said. “So it still could be a very good season or, you know, a very successful season.”

That assessment reflects the mood around Anfield: cautious optimism, tempered by the club’s recent struggles, but with a clear desire to stabilise and reassess in the summer.

As things stand, Arne Slot remains in position, and while scrutiny will persist, all signals suggest he will lead Liverpool into the final months of the campaign.
