There’s high drama for the Liverpool faithful. Should he stay or should he go? With rumors swirling about French defender Ibrahima Konate leaving the transfer portal this summer, Liverpool is already taking steps to have his replacement on board. According to football insiders, Liverpool is interested in signing 22-year-old sensation Nnamdi Collins to replace Konate should he leave.
Konate is entering a contract year. Should Liverpool and the star defender fail to come to terms, Konate is expected to take his talents elsewhere. While both sides have had talks, according to football experts like BettingTop10.ie, talks have broken down with seemingly no progress towards
Possessing a contract that expires this summer, talks over a new deal for Konate have seemingly stalled. Despite months of negotiations between the player and Liverpool, there has been little to no progress on a renewal. Determined to have something to show for with the Konate situation, Liverpool has high hopes for Collins. Standing at just 22 years old, Liverpool wants to sign the centre-back who can also play right-back. Konate should leave for free this summer.
What’s interesting about Collins is that he’d actually be one of the more experienced players. Virgil van Dijk will be 35 years old before the end of next season, but apart from him, only Jeremy Jacquet, who is 20, and Giovanni Leoni, who is 19, are on the roster who can play at centre-back. Signing Collins could help them long-term, and then he should play alongside Van Dijk to add youth to the lineup.
Should Collins get the nod, He could come straight into the lineup and learn on the fly with more minutes than he can handle. Should Collins prove to be a good fit, he may even take Konate’s spot in the starting eleven. Besides Konate, Liverpool is also planning on Joe Gomez’s potential departure this summer as well.
Gomez continues to play inspired football despite Liverpool shuffling the roster to find chemistry and to contend with injuries. However, injuries have hit Gomez hard this season. So, for double the insurance, Liverpool might sweeten the pot to get Collins on board. In this scenario, it shouldn’t be too far-fetched for Collins to become the starting centre-back for Liverpool.
