Liverpool Transfer News: Reds in the Race to sign £70m-rated Midfielder

The summer transfer window is looming and Liverpool are expected to be busy once again. Last year saw the Reds spend a record-breaking £450m on the likes of Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike.

Mohamed Salah has already confirmed that he will leave the club for free at the end of the season and more could follow. As it stands, the defensive duo of Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate will follow him out of the door when their contracts expire in June.

Naturally, there has been lots of talk over Liverpool’s plans to bolster their defensive and offensive lines. However, the Reds are also facing major questions over their midfield. Both Wataru Endo and Curtis Jones could be set to leave this summer and reinforcements are needed.

Liverpool’s Midfield Plans

One of the names being mentioned is AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara. According to a report from Caught Offside, Liverpool are one of the clubs that are ‘closely monitoring’ the player.

However, the Reds face competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea and it would take an ‘astronomical’ offer to land the 22-year-old.

“Monaco are open to doing business, but unless someone comes in with an offer in the €65–75 million range, which Premier League clubs are capable of paying, they’ll say no. There’s no pressure on them to sell, and they’d rather keep him as his value could rise even further,” the report said.

The French club will be in no major rush to move on the midfielder, with his contract set to expire in 2029.

In fairness, the last time Liverpool visited Monaco for a midfielder it all worked out well, didn’t it?

That was a £40m move for Fabinho back in 2018 and the Brazilian went onto become the best defensive midfielder in the world.

Why do Liverpool Want Camara?

Camara is undoubtedly one of the most talented young midfielders in Europe at the moment. The 22-year-old is a complete all-rounder.

Strong defensively, but also progressive and smooth with the ball at his feet.

He sits in the 88th percentile for duels won by midfielders, with 108 so far this season. That’s a 60% success rate.

He’s progressive both with his passing but also his movement. He loves to drive through the midfield, which we know Arne Slot loves in his Liverpool side from the way Ryan Gravenberch operated.

Camara is an absolute foul-magnet. He has won 40 fouls so far this season, placing him in the 97th percentile in that metric.

Whilst he is strong physically and in the tackle, he’s also brilliant at reading the game. His 34 interceptions so far this season places him in the 97th percentile.

He has created 27 chances so far this season, with 7 of those counted as big chances. If Liverpool are wanting an all-rounder box-to-box midfielder, then Camara could be perfect.

In a summer where the likes of Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton are expected to move for fees in the region of £100m, Camara could be an absolutely brilliant piece of business.
