Alisson Becker Future at Liverpool Comes Into Focus Amid Juventus Interest

Alisson Becker’s Liverpool future became another important topic on Anfield Index’s ‘Media Matters’ podcast, as Dave Davis and David Lynch discussed a summer that could bring major change at Anfield.

The conversation came after Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat away to Manchester United, but the wider mood of the podcast was about more than one poor result. Davis and Lynch worked through a squad that may look very different next season, with Mohamed Salah, Federico Chiesa, Curtis Jones and possibly Alisson all discussed in relation to potential exits.

When Davis turned to the Italy links, he introduced Alisson as a decision that may rest largely with the player. “Is it almost the case of, is Alisson just going to decide whether he wants to see out his final year or go?” he asked.

That framed the issue neatly. Liverpool may not be actively pushing Alisson out, but with Juventus interest described as real, this could become one of the most significant calls of the summer.

Lynch says decision may be Alisson’s

David Lynch’s response was clear. “Yeah, I think he’s going to get the choice,” he said.

For a player of Alisson’s status, that matters. Lynch suggested Liverpool will treat the goalkeeper with respect because of what he has given the club. “I think Liverpool will give him a similar decision to make that they have with others in terms of, look, do you want to go? You’ve been a great servant for us.”

That phrase, “a great servant,” is central to the tone of the discussion. This was not framed as Liverpool needing to discard Alisson, or as a player whose level has suddenly collapsed. It was about timing, succession planning and whether one of the defining figures of the modern Liverpool era may decide that this is the moment to move on.

Lynch added that “it’s kind of a choice you can make at that point,” which suggests Liverpool may be prepared to accept Alisson’s preference if Juventus turn interest into something more concrete.

Mamardashvili signing changes context

The reason Liverpool can even consider such a decision is Giorgi Mamardashvili. Lynch pointed directly to that signing as evidence that Liverpool have already prepared for the future.

“We’ve kind of got ahead of that with the Mamardashvili signing,” he said, adding that there is “potential there to kind of see him into being the first choice.”

That does not make the decision simple. Alisson has been one of Liverpool’s elite performers for years, and replacing that level of authority is never straightforward. Yet Liverpool’s recruitment has created a pathway that did not previously exist.

If Alisson stays, Liverpool retain a proven goalkeeper with enormous experience. If he leaves, the club can present Mamardashvili as the planned successor rather than a rushed reaction.

This is the kind of decision that serious clubs try to make before panic arrives. Lynch’s reading was that Liverpool have already done some of the groundwork.

Leadership loss would matter

The Alisson discussion also connected to a wider theme in the podcast, Liverpool’s leadership and culture. Later, when responding to a question about the possibility of “Salah Robertson and possibly Jones and Alisson going,” Lynch acknowledged that Liverpool are entering a period where new figures must step up.

He said: “Who is going to step up and be that the new squad?”

That is the bigger Alisson issue. His departure would not only mean losing a goalkeeper. It would mean losing a senior voice, a standard setter and one of the last major figures from the previous Liverpool era.

Lynch made the broader point that “you can’t keep these aging players forever” and that Liverpool “have had to move on into a new era of players.” In Alisson’s case, that transition may now be closer than ever.

Summer call could define Liverpool reset

Lynch was careful to say Juventus’ interest is “definitely real,” while adding that the next step depends on whether they “really do flame that up.” If they do, he said, “the ball is going to be in Alisson’s court pretty much.”

That line captures the situation. Liverpool appear prepared for either outcome. They have Mamardashvili waiting, they recognise Alisson’s service, and they may allow him to choose whether he wants a new challenge or one more season at Anfield.

For Arne Slot, Richard Hughes and Liverpool, this is another summer decision loaded with consequence. After a poor season, the club need renewal, but losing too many experienced players at once risks creating another problem.

Alisson’s future may ultimately come down to his own judgement. As Lynch put it, “the ball is going to be in Alisson’s court.”
