Liverpool Prepare Emotional Farewell for Andy Robertson and Mo Salah

Sunday at Anfield will carry the weight of history, gratitude and emotion as Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah prepare to say farewell to Liverpool.

Few modern Liverpool careers have blended brilliance, consistency and connection with supporters quite like theirs. Across nine unforgettable years, they helped deliver eight major honours, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League, while becoming symbols of an era that restored Liverpool’s place among football’s elite.

Ahead of the final game against Brentford, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot reflected on his experiences working alongside both players. His words revealed admiration not only for their footballing excellence, but also for the personalities that shaped the dressing room around them.

Andy Robertson Defined Liverpool Intensity

Slot’s respect for Robertson was immediate. Having watched Liverpool extensively during the Jürgen Klopp years, he already understood the Scotland captain’s influence.

“A lot. A lot of knowledge because I watched Liverpool a lot in Jürgen [Klopp]’s time,” Slot explained.

He described Robertson’s “energy”, “work-rate” and relentless overlapping runs, before adding how impressed he became by the left back’s calmness in possession and ability to contribute in deeper build-up phases.

Perhaps the most striking praise came when Slot was asked whether Robertson had once been the best left back in Europe.

“Yeah, definitely,” he replied.

“If you are the best full-back in England, in the Premier League, it’s almost safe to say you’re the best in the world.”

That assessment reflected what Liverpool supporters witnessed for years. Robertson turned intensity into identity. His pressing against Manchester City became so iconic that Slot later used it as a teaching example during his Feyenoord days.

“If even the best left full-back in the world does this then it’s not too much to ask from you guys to try to replicate this,” Slot recalled telling his players.

Mo Salah Delivered When Liverpool Needed Him Most

Liverpool’s modern story cannot be told without Salah. Goals, assists and records only explain part of his importance. What separated him was timing.

“And what stands even more out for me with him is that he didn’t produce these numbers in moments when it was 3-0 or 4-0 up,” Slot explained.

“He was also the one where you looked at when things were tough, when things were difficult.”

Slot repeatedly returned to one idea, Salah’s ability to decide the biggest moments.

He highlighted the Egyptian’s decisive goal against Brighton last season, calling it “a signature Mo Salah goal”, and explained how often Liverpool depended on him when matches were balanced and tension filled Anfield.

For all the numbers Salah produced, Slot appeared most impressed by his mentality.

“His commitment to be the best player he can be every three days is something that was always and still needs to be a big example for everyone that played with him.”

Arne Slot Honours Liverpool Greatness

There was also recognition from Slot that Liverpool’s leading figures deserved more than one Premier League title for their contribution to the club.

“They deserve to win the league more than once,” he said.

“Winning it twice sets you in a different category.”

That line captured the significance of this Liverpool generation. Robertson, Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker became pillars of consistency across multiple managerial eras and tactical evolutions.

Slot also spoke warmly about Salah away from football, describing him as “very calm” and “just a normal human being” despite global superstardom. He praised Salah’s willingness to mentor younger players such as Rio Ngumoha and emphasised how grounded he remained inside the club environment.

As Anfield prepares to salute two modern legends, supporters will not simply remember trophies. They will remember standards, sacrifices and moments that defined an era.

Robertson brought fire. Salah brought inevitability. Together, they helped shape Liverpool history.
