Liverpool Legend Jurgen Klopp Could be Set for Managerial Return
Jurgen Klopp remains one of the most admired managers in world football, even two years after leaving Liverpool.
The German departed Anfield in May 2024 after a transformative spell on Merseyside, having restored Liverpool to the summit of English and European football. His legacy includes the club’s first Premier League title, Champions League success, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
Now 58, Klopp is not currently working in club management. He has since taken on a role as Global Head of Soccer for Red Bull, a position that has kept him close to the game while away from the pressures of the dugout.
That has not stopped speculation over his future. Klopp’s reputation, built across spells with Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool, continues to ensure his name is linked whenever major jobs become available.
Al-Ittihad Interest Emerges
According to talkSPORT, Al-Ittihad regard Jurgen Klopp as their “dream” managerial target as the Saudi Pro League club search for a new head coach.
Al-Ittihad are assessing options following the departure of Francisco Conceicao. Club officials are said to hold genuine admiration for Klopp, although there is also recognition that any attempt to appoint him would be extremely difficult.

The financial structure around such a move is considered complicated. Additional support from the Saudi Ministry of Finance may be required for any approach to become viable, and sources close to the situation have played down the prospect of advanced talks.
For Al-Ittihad, the appeal is obvious. Klopp’s Liverpool teams combined intensity, recruitment clarity and emotional connection with supporters. That profile would carry enormous weight in Saudi Arabia, where clubs continue to pursue elite coaching names alongside high profile players.
Real Madrid Links Dismissed
Klopp has also been linked with a possible return to management elsewhere, including speculation around Real Madrid.
The Spanish club had been connected with a potential move amid uncertainty over their coaching plans, although reports now suggest Jose Mourinho is set to take charge. Klopp, however, has rejected suggestions that Real Madrid made contact.
The German said: “If Real Madrid had phoned, we would have heard about it by now. But that’s all nonsense. They haven’t called even once, not once. My agent is there, you can ask him.
“They haven’t called him either. Right now I’m not thinking about that, luckily there’s no reason to. For my age I’m quite advanced in life, but as a coach I’m not completely finished. I haven’t reached retirement age. Who knows what will happen in the coming years? But there’s nothing planned.”
