Liverpool’s Ayyoub Bouaddi Interest Hinges on Midfield Exits

Liverpool’s transfer priorities continue to evolve as the summer window unfolds, but one area appears dependent on events elsewhere in the squad. Speaking on the latest edition of Anfield Index’s Media Matters, Dave Davis and David Lynch discussed Liverpool’s reported interest in Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, explaining why patience may be required before any deal can develop.

Bouaddi continues to attract attention across Europe, with reports suggesting his valuation has climbed significantly in recent weeks. While Liverpool remain admirers of the talented teenager, David Lynch made it clear that the club’s immediate focus lies elsewhere.

David Lynch outlines Liverpool’s midfield strategy

Introducing the topic, Dave Davis highlighted the growing speculation surrounding the Lille youngster.

“It does feel like the only worry about Bouaddi is it seems clear Liverpool have watched him, but every report you hear, the price goes up.”

He added that recent reports had seen the valuation rise dramatically.

“The last thing Fabrizio Romano said, there’s now talk it’s around €80 million, which was €70 million and then there was one report at €65 million two weeks ago.”

David Lynch acknowledged both the increasing price and the level of competition surrounding the midfielder.

“So, quite expensive as you say and I think the fact that other clubs are involved as well. You don’t want to end up in a bidding war that just pushes the price up.”

Rather than dismissing Liverpool’s interest, Lynch explained that the club’s current position is dictated by squad balance.

“I think the key thing with Liverpool at the moment is that they’ve definitely watched a few midfielders. It’s definitely a position you can expect some changes in this summer, but it’s so reliant on outgoings.”

Curtis Jones situation could shape Liverpool’s plans

One of the strongest themes throughout the discussion was that Liverpool are unlikely to recruit another midfielder unless space first becomes available.

Lynch explained that “the numbers there just don’t kind of add up at the moment” before adding, “they probably need outgoings.”

He pointed directly towards two players whose futures could influence Liverpool’s next move.

“There are a big chance of that happening. Obviously, we know the Curtis Jones situation. Alexis Mac Allister is another one who could leave, but it’d probably happen later in the window.”

For that reason, Liverpool are not expected to rush into negotiations.

“Until you kind of get anything concrete moving on those, I’m not 100% that Liverpool are going to be making moves in the midfielder market just yet.”

It is a measured approach that reflects Liverpool’s wider recruitment strategy this summer, ensuring resources remain available for positions viewed as more urgent.

Bouaddi remains on Liverpool’s shortlist

Despite stressing the need for departures first, Lynch left little doubt that Bouaddi remains firmly under consideration.

“If the window ends, you’d be surprised if they hadn’t made an addition because I think big chances for those guys to go.”

He also confirmed exactly where Bouaddi stands.

“Bouaddi is obviously on the list if they do open up a spot.”

Dave Davis echoed that assessment by referencing reports from France suggesting Lille could eventually sanction a departure if their own midfield reshuffle allows the youngster more regular opportunities.

For now, though, Liverpool appear content to wait.

As Lynch concluded, “We’ve got to kind of wait that one out and keep an eye on it.”

That may ultimately prove to be the defining message surrounding Liverpool’s pursuit of Ayyoub Bouaddi. The admiration is genuine, the monitoring is ongoing, but unless Liverpool first create room in midfield through departures, any move for the Lille talent is likely to remain on hold.
