Curtis Jones Future Unclear as Liverpool Face Summer Contract Decision
Curtis Jones could become one of the more interesting Liverpool stories of the summer, with his contract situation, outside interest and squad status all now part of a bigger Anfield discussion.
Speaking to Trev Downey on Anfield Index, Lewis Steele confirmed that Nottingham Forest’s interest in Jones is real, although he stopped short of suggesting a deal is advanced.
Forest Interest Confirmed
Asked directly about Forest and Curtis Jones, Steele said:
“Yeah, there’s definitely interest there.”
He added: “I was told this about a week ago. I don’t know how advanced the interest is.”
That matters because Jones has one year remaining on his Liverpool contract. For a club already under pressure to sell smartly and buy smartly, allowing a player to drift towards the final months of his deal would create an obvious decision point.
Steele also gave a clear indication of Liverpool’s valuation.
“Liverpool want about £35m-40m.”
That figure feels significant. It gives Liverpool a line in the sand, especially with Forest expected to have money available after sales.
Inter Milan Context Changes Picture
Jones has also faced interest from Inter Milan, and Steele referenced the contrast between that possibility and a potential move to Nottingham Forest.
“A few weeks ago he’s getting linked with the Italian champions, living in Milan, playing for him for playing at the San Siro every week.”
He then added, with a touch of humour: “Nottingham is a nice place. There’s certainly worse places in England, but I think I’d probably rather play in the San Siro than Forest.”
That line captures the strange place Jones now occupies. He is not a forgotten squad player, yet he may not be central enough to be untouchable. He is homegrown, technically secure and experienced, but Liverpool’s midfield could change again this summer.

Liverpool Have a Decision to Make
Steele’s comments suggest Liverpool are not pushing Jones out aggressively, but the situation feels open.
“It seems like he wants to leave.”
That quote is the key one. If Jones wants minutes, status and a fresh role, Liverpool must decide whether to cash in now or risk losing leverage later.
With one year remaining on his deal, this summer could be the natural moment to act. Inter Milan would offer glamour, Champions League pedigree and a different footballing education. Nottingham Forest would offer Premier League continuity, likely importance and a chance to become a central figure.
Valuation Could Shape Jones Exit
The next step is whether any club reaches Liverpool’s asking price.
Steele said Forest have not yet gone that far: “Liverpool want about £35 million. Inter haven’t put that on the table yet.”
He also suggested Forest’s presence may help Liverpool.
“Maybe the Forest interest will sort of give him a bit of a kick up the backside to put some money on the table.”
For Liverpool, this is a classic contract pressure call. Keep Jones, and they retain a useful homegrown midfielder. Sell him, and they may help fund a midfield refresh under Andoni Iraola.
Either way, the Anfield Index discussion made one thing clear. Curtis Jones’ future is no longer a background issue. With Inter Milan watching, Nottingham Forest interested and Liverpool setting a valuation, this could become one of the more quietly important transfer decisions of the summer.
