Andoni Iraola gets early boost

Andoni Iraola is still piecing this squad together in the early weeks of pre-season, with several regular starters unavailable after World Cup duty. Szoboszlai, because Hungary did not reach the finals, has been available from the outset. For a new head coach, that is useful. For Liverpool, it is important.

Iraola wants players who set the tone properly. Szoboszlai already does that. He plays hard, he plays forward and he affects games. If the vice-captaincy is genuinely open after Andy Robertson’s departure, he has made his case in the most obvious way possible.
