Liverpool’s Bradley Barcola Talks Remain a Waiting Game as PSG Hold the Key

Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola remains one of the central transfer stories around Anfield, and David Lynch believes the delay is largely being dictated by PSG’s own business.

Speaking to Dave Davis on Anfield Index’s Media Matters podcast, Lynch addressed the latest position around the PSG forward and the sense that Liverpool are waiting for movement in Paris before a deal can accelerate.

PSG Business Shapes Liverpool Timeline

Davis described the situation as feeling like “a housing chain”, with PSG needing to complete their own attacking business before Liverpool can make decisive progress on Barcola.

Lynch agreed with that assessment.

“Yeah, exactly that. I think that’s what’s kind of dragging it out at the moment,” he said.

For Liverpool supporters waiting for a breakthrough, Lynch pointed towards PSG’s activity as a reason for encouragement.

“I think what people should be encouraged by is that PSG are doing that business,” Lynch said.

He added: “So they are getting those options through the door and working to do so.”

That, in Lynch’s view, matters because it reduces the likelihood of PSG changing course over the forward.

“So it doesn’t look to me like they’re going to turn around and, excuse me, say, ‘oh we don’t want to sell’ now,” he said.

Price Could Change Once PSG Are Ready

A major part of the conversation centred on timing and PSG’s asking price.

Lynch said: “I think that their asking price is clearly going to come down once they’re confident that they’ve got the business done that they need to.”

According to Lynch’s comments on the podcast, Liverpool cannot fully control the pace of the deal while PSG continue working through their own transfer plans.

“Not too concerned about this one, I just think it’s a timing thing,” Lynch explained.

He continued: “Ideally, you know, you’d love to have him in in the next week or so, but it’s not in Liverpool’s hands.”

Lynch was equally clear about what ultimately matters for Liverpool.

“You just want to make sure they do get him over the line in the end,” he said.

Barcola Viewed as Liverpool’s Main Forward Priority

Later in the discussion, Lynch returned to Bradley Barcola while assessing Liverpool’s wider attacking plans and other possible forward options.

On Ibrahim Mbaye, Lynch stressed that Liverpool like the player, while indicating that Barcola appears to be the more immediate priority.

“I just think Barcola is kind of the main focus at the moment maybe, and that’s just me speculating by the way,” Lynch said.

That qualification was significant. Lynch made a clear distinction between what he understood about Liverpool’s interest and where he was offering his own assessment of the situation.

When the conversation moved towards alternative attacking targets, Lynch again brought the focus back to the PSG forward.

“I think they’re just, the one thing they want to get over the line more than anything is get Barcola and then move on from there,” he said.

Liverpool Waiting for First Domino to Fall

The “housing chain” comparison returned when Davis asked about Cody Gakpo and the possibility of several transfer moves becoming connected.

Lynch said: “I just think everybody’s waiting for everybody else to get their bits done.”

He then outlined how movement at PSG could unlock the situation.

“I think if PSG get [their business] over the line, do they then start to say, ‘OK, let’s come to the table on Barcola to get that done?’ Liverpool get guarantees around that being done and then they are open to the Gakpo sale.”

Lynch added that the market currently “does feel a little bit stuck”, while stressing that movement will eventually be required because “there’s not that long left”.

For now, the discussion on Anfield Index points towards a clear situation. Liverpool remain focused on Bradley Barcola, PSG’s recruitment is influencing the timeline, and the next significant development may depend on business being completed in Paris.

As Lynch put it near the conclusion of Media Matters: “Can we get Barcola this week?”

That is now the question hanging over Liverpool’s transfer plans.
