Liverpool Move for Yankuba Minteh ‘Moving Towards a Conclusion’ as Brighton Talks Continue

Liverpool appear to be accelerating their pursuit of Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh as the transfer window enters its decisive final days.

Speaking to Dave Davis on Anfield Index’s Media Matters podcast, Liverpool reporter David Lynch offered a positive assessment of both the direction of negotiations and the qualities Minteh could bring to Andoni Iraola’s squad.

With Brighton holding firm over their valuation, Liverpool still have work to do. Lynch, though, believes the direction of travel is increasingly clear.

Liverpool ‘Aggressively Pursuing’ Yankuba Minteh

Davis outlined the recent movement around Minteh, referencing reports of Liverpool bids worth £50 million and £60 million, alongside talk of Brighton wanting around £70 million and another offer being prepared.

For Lynch, the pursuit has reached a significant stage.

“It just looks from the outside that he’s the one that Liverpool have settled on now,” he told Davis, adding that Liverpool are “really kind of aggressively pursuing” the Brighton winger.

Lynch also referenced Brighton reporter Andy Naylor and suggested momentum is building towards an agreement.

“All indications are that we’re moving towards a conclusion on that one really,” Lynch said.

That represents a particularly strong assessment with the deadline approaching. Lynch later added: “It does seem to be kind of moving towards a conclusion and he’s going to be holding up the shirt soon.”

Minteh Profile Fits Liverpool’s Requirements

Lynch also addressed what Liverpool evidently see in Minteh, particularly when balancing Iraola’s attacking options.

He described the Brighton forward as “a left footer who prefers to play on the right hand side who’s got threat”, while highlighting his “good underlying creative numbers”.

There is another important ingredient.

“He’s a grafter. I think he’s a really good option,” Lynch said.

According to Lynch, Liverpool have been searching for “someone who’s natural down the right hand side and also works really hard as well”, with Minteh ticking those requirements through his defensive output and Premier League experience.

The winger’s current injury is clearly part of the equation. Lynch described it as “a pain” and said Minteh would be unavailable for “a couple of months”, although he stressed that recruitment has to be viewed over a longer timeframe.

“I really like a lot about this player as a potential signing and you can see why Liverpool have settled upon him,” he said.

Lynch Backs Minteh to Surprise Liverpool Supporters

There has been a more restrained reaction among some supporters, something Lynch admitted had surprised him.

Later in the Anfield Index discussion, he argued that familiarity with Minteh may even be influencing perceptions compared with alternative targets.

“I think Minteh is going to surprise a lot of people actually,” Lynch said.

“I really like his underlying numbers and his work rate and everything about him. I think in a better team, he can be really really useful.”

That assessment cuts to the heart of Liverpool’s apparent interest. Minteh already possesses Premier League experience with Brighton, operates naturally from the right, offers a left footed attacking option and, crucially for Liverpool’s requirements, contributes without the ball.

The only remaining question is whether Liverpool and Brighton can settle on a valuation.

With Lynch saying the next bid is expected soon and describing negotiations as moving towards a conclusion, Yankuba Minteh now looks to be one of Liverpool’s most advanced transfer pursuits as the deadline approaches.
