Still, supporters will feel this needs sorting quickly. If Minteh is the one the analysts and decision-makers truly believe fits Iraola’s football, then the extra £5m should not become the story. In the context of a major transfer window, that gap feels manageable if it secures the manager a player he can trust right away.
There is also a football argument in Minteh’s favour. Premier League experience matters, adaptation matters, and age profile matters. Liverpool do not only need talent, they need someone who can contribute immediately in a side trying to recover momentum and establish a new identity under the new head coach.
Mbaye, of course, is hardly a weak fallback. If the club think his ceiling is even higher and the value stronger, then make that call and move decisively. Fans can accept almost any decision when it is clear and well executed. What they struggle with is hesitation.
