Scouser Tommies: End Of This Line

Scouser Tommies: End Of This Line

Jim Boardman and Jay Reid are back and feeling a little bit bruised after an event that hasn’t happened since Paul Konchesky was the star of Roy Hodgson’s version of LFC. Meanwhile, as what has been an amazing ride under Jurgen Klopp stutters towards the end, it sounds like Liverpool have lined up his successor. There are mixed feelings from fans about Arne Slot as the next boss of Liverpool but as Jay and Jim discuss, all they have been hearing – from people who know Dutch football and know Liverpool – points to him being exactly who the Reds need. It certainly feels like there’s something to look forward to after a few weeks no Reds want to look back at. A rare derby defeat at Goodison Park has left the blue quarter of Liverpool parading around like they’ve won a trophy and the rest of us feeling like we’ve lost three. Everton invited their neighbours to their now traditional just-avoided-relegation party this year, and Liverpool brought gifts. The neighbours will say they ended the Reds’ title hopes, but Liverpool were already done. All good things must come to an end and in football they often end before they are mathematically impossible, so whilst at the time of recording there was still a theoretical chance of the title, the miracles required were way too far-fetched. Especially when one of them was for Liverpool to find their form again. So Klopp wasn’t to get his fairy-tale ending, but maybe now the pressure is off and the players he puts out could try and entertain us instead of everyone else. Next up is a trip to West Ham, and our old mate David Moyes, so the potential is definitely there for the nightmare to continue. Especially if we dwell too much on the fact that there is still a mathematical chance that Liverpool don’t qualify for the Champions League. It’s not the best of endings to the last season under the German, but it does still end with a trophy, and there is still time to settle some scores on the pitch. Learn more about your ad choices. One down, a good few more to go. Liverpool overcame Watford at the weekend with a 2-0 win, to temporarily rise to the top of the Premier League. Manchester City soon reclaimed that position, with a routine win against Burnley. This coming week will now see two crucial games follow that game against Watford, as […]

A few eyebrows were raised when it was revealed Watford had signed Emmanuel Dennis. In 2019, he scored twice against Real Madrid for Club Brugge in a 2-2 draw in the Santiago Bernabeu. A little over a year later, he was loaned out to Bundesliga side Koln. His time there was unproductive, with Dennis failing […]

Youri Tielemans is on the move this summer. According to reports, the midfield maestro is set to be available for as little as £25million due to his contract situation. The 24-year-old, once touted as a £60million-rated midfielder, has just 12 months left on his deal and Leicester do not want to lose him on a […]

There’s always talk that Liverpool could raid a relegated club for a player. The idea stems from the fact the Reds did just that when they signed Andrew Robertson and Gini Wijnaldum in consecutive summers. Are the club beyond that now? Back then the hopes were of a top four finish, now everything is geared […]

Roberto Firmino has, throughout his time at Liverpool, proved to be a perfect sidekick for other superheroes dressed in red. The Brazilian has never complained at having to play the role of Robin as the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have set about performing their best Batman impressions. For a man from South […]

It seems an absolute eternity ago that Liverpool were signing certain players under the management of Brendan Rogers at Liverpool. This summer could see some of Mohammad Salah, Sadio Mané, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Joe Gomez leave the club. Whereas the first two are key components within this current Liverpool side, there is no […]

Jurgen Klopp has made some gamechanging substitutions in crucial fixtures recently. Most notably, of course, there was the daring triple sub against Inter Milan at the San Siro. Off went Harvey Elliott, Sadio Mane and, surprisingly, Fabinho and on came Naby Keita, Luis Diaz and Jordan Henderson. The subsequent improvement in the Reds’ display was […]

Among the most exciting periods of the year for any football supporter is the summer transfer window. It is usually when we see new big arrivals at our favourite clubs, but the links and rumours are active throughout the year. Liverpool has been very successful in recent years, and understandably, players would jump in the […]

At £75 million, the rhetoric surrounding Virgil Van Dijk’s move to Liverpool (from Southampton) was often one of surprise. There would have been a fair portion of Reds fans that saw the deal as overly expensive, but it was the remainder of the football supporting community that sniggered at the deal. There were fans everywhere, […]
