Episode 228: GOING TO WAR
On the latest Anfield Index Podcast, Trev Downey, Karl Coppack, Kam Brainch and producer Guy Drinkel present you with a cornucopia of Reds-adjacent delights. From the political opinions of Brian Blessed, to a discussion of the standard of accent work on The Wire and culminating in a nice bit of Aristotle, the lads have the non-footy bases covered but the majority of the show revolves around the derby draw, the upcoming clash with Sean’s Dychebags and the fact that The Reds are still going to win this f**kin’ league.
Episode 227: UP THE F***KIN’ REDS
On the latest Anfield Index Podcast, Trev Downey, Karl Coppack, Kam Brainch and producer Guy Drinkel serve up an antidote to some of the gloomier commentary on Liverpool football club in the wake of the 0-0 at old Trafford. There are chats about the captain, the manager, needlessly emotive terminology, good defending, intelligent old movies, the evils of the Big Brother social credit system and Sean Dyche. It’s a belter
Episode 226: KICKSTARTER ROADTRIP
On the latest Anfield Index Podcast, Trev Downey, Karl Coppack and Kam Brainch, under the watchful eye of producer Guy Drinkel, reflect on the win over Bournemouth, the prospect of the City challenge, the Champions League tie against Bayern Munich and the sate of current affairs. There’s some chat about favourite cities, best meals and and bike helmets - the usual - what did you expect from these lads??
Episode 225: JOEL’S EQUINE GAIT
After a two week hiatus, The Big Show returns with Trev Downey, Karl Coppack and Kam Brainch under the supervision of producer Guy Drinkel. The intention was to have a free-wheeling chat about mostly non-footy subjects but, as usual, the lads footballed the bejeezus out of the conversation. Topics included the form of Naby Keita, the performance of the manager in recent weeks, the strongest line-up now that some injured players are returning and the importance of recapturing that swagger and stability which characterised the team in the first half of the campaign. There’s an interesting weather forecast, some conversation about bureaucracy in India and a chat about superstition which leads to some revelations about Kam’s lucky red underwear, because of course.
Episode 224: BABELCOPTER, BREXIT & BIELSA
JAYSUS - On the latest Anfield Index Podcast, Trev Downey and his two partners in pod crime, Kam Brainch and Karl Coppack, under the watchful eye of producer Guy Drinkel, tackle the usual variety of Liverpool-related topics. The show begins with a celebration of peculiarly Irish exasperation, before a nod to a man whose methods “translated” across the backwaters of Scandinavia. There’s then a startling revelation that our Punjabi correspondent may be poached away by local talent scouts, before the lads gather themselves and reflect on the stories about the terrible set of lads that are Messrs Keys and Warnock. To round out the episode, there’s a look at the Reds’ latest injury issues ahead of the game at Crystal Palace and, needless to say, there’s a highbrow debate on the morality of Marcelo Bielsa, before the new jingle for Kam’s Korner concludes the whole affair on high.
Episode 223: MOTHERLAND MUSINGS
On the first Anfield Index Podcast of 2019, Trev Downey, Kam Brainch, Karl Coppack and producer Guy Drinkel serve you up a belter of a show with the by-now-customary diversity of topics. We move from risqué double-entendres and the sage observations of Bros to earnest analysis of the impact of losing to City and whether or not Liverpool’s title challenge has been impaired. There is then a passionate digression which centres on the absolutely atrocious state of the major channels’ ‘analysis’ and a frank discussion about the exit from the FA Cup, before some lighter chat about potential comings and goings and a glorious conclusion comprising of another piece of Tony Blackburn wisdom and some Brainch philosophy robbed from ‘the internet.’ Tremendous.
Episode 222: NEW YEAR’S REVOLUTION
On the latest Anfield Index Podcast, Trev Downey, Karl Coppack, Kam Brainch and producer Guy Drinkel get together to record a bumper New Year celebration podcast after a festive break. With Kam on his travels in the weeks to come, the lads were eager to revel in an unprecedented sequence of Reds’ results and focus on some of the many highlights that have lit up the recent victories over Wolves, Newcastle and Arsenal. However, it’s the AIP, and that means there’s also some bad book quotes that seem to focus on unusual sexual liaisons, Karl’s latest name-drop tale and other assorted entertaining tangents, like Kam’s animated moral stance on New Year’s resolutions.
Episode 221: SHAQED AT CHRIMBO
On the festive edition of The Anfield Index Podcast, Trev Downey, Kam Brainch and Karl Coppack, under the watchful eye of producer, Guy Drinkel, revel in the recent successes of The Redmen. There’s a discussion of the high points from the magnificent Anfield win over United, a chat about the progress of the club under Jürgen Klopp, a look at the Champions League clash with Bayern Munich and there may even be an uncharitable giggle or two at the expense of the recently sacked manager of the aforementioned Mancs. As it’s The AIP, the lads obviously also indulge in lots of non-footy festive topics too and, of course, there’s more Tony Blackburn.
Episode 220: SCHRODINGER’S KARL
On the new Anfield Index Podcast, Trev Downey, Karl Coppack and Kam Brainch, under the watchful eye of Guy Drinkel, revel in the absolute joy of that absurdly dramatic derby win. There is a cornucopia of celebratory goodness, with music, singing, impressions and magnet conspiracy videos even before the in-depth chat about The Reds victory and the outstanding moments of it. Kam’s golden voice, Karl’s physics-defying goal celebrations and Guy’s impeccable taste in sweeties are just some of the highlights of a show done early in the week and late at night specifically to wallow in the most enjoyable of wins over the blues.
Episode 219: THE JOEL MATIP SUBSTITUTION EXPERIENCE
On the latest Anfield Index Podcast, Trev Downey, Kam Brainch and birthday boy Karl Coppack discuss a dizzying array of Reds-related topics as well as a healthy smattering of non-football subjects. Virgil Van Dijk, the new Liverpool efficiency, Bobby Firmino’s developing role and Andy Robbo’s ongoing excellence are just some of the footy discussion points. Christmas dinner variations, Janus words, LFC memorabilia, the unknowable nature of Yorkshire puddings and drunk attendance of midnight mass are just a few of the others. You know the craic at this stage.
Episode 218: SUPINE ACTIVITY
On the latest Anfield Index Podcast, Trev Downey, Kam Brainch, Karl Coppack and producer Guy Drinkel offer up a delightful mélange of international fortnight frippery. From the solid showing against Fulham to the absurdity of the England set-up and from the decorum surrounding biscuit dunking to the (ir)relevance of antiques, this is the show you listen to for LFC talk and almost everything else besides. Bonus chat includes, astrology vs astronomy, celebrity meet-ups, first crushes and some booze philosophy from Trev’s literary heroes.
Episode 217: TESTICULAR FORTITUDE
The Anfield Index Podcast returns for episode 217, with Trev Downey, Karl Coppack and Kam Brainch, under the watchful eye of producer Guy Drinkel, discussing the two most recent Reds outings and looking forward to the Fulham clash at the weekend. The manager gets an affectionate but scolding eyebrow raised in his direction, as the lads discuss the shortcomings in Belgrade and the outing at The Emirates. As ever, the footy chat is a treat but it is supplemented by the usual bladder around topics as various as The Haunting of Hill House, Krispy Kreme donuts, Ripperology, and the neologisms of 1973.
Episode 216: DRUNKEN COACH DRIVER
The new episode of The Anfield Index podcast sees Trev Downey, Karl Coppack and Kam Brainch tackle a wide variety of Reds-related topics. This week the lads look at the midfield options for the Arsenal clash, reflect on the contributions of Xherdan Shaqiri and Fabinho to the recent defeat of Cardiff, ponder the beauty of the perfect goal sounds, debate the perfect number 10 and indulge in a bit of 08/09 nostalgia. Other topics covered include dystopian movies, bus drivers, bobble hats, condiments on jaffa cakes and Kathleen Zellner as holding midfielder for The Reds. The usual.
