With most of the players away on duty for their countries, Jim Boardman and Jay Reid are back to see what’s going on in Liverpool, and it turns out the international break isn’t so quiet.
The Reds who have been out in action for their countries have had a good week - well at least some of them - although for Liverpool fans a truly good week would be one that saw these players head home early to prepare for the match against City.
Also this week there’s look back at the game against Brentford, where the atmosphere was a long way short of European night levels, and Jay and Jim wonder if there’s anything that could or should be done about that.
The main reason this international break hasn’t been quiet is because of the neighbours. Across the park Everton are back under a cloud after their highs of lifting themselves out of the relegation zone and all we can hear is crying about how unfair everything is after they got themselves firmly dumped back into that zone. Having smashed past the Premier League’s first marker for losses - £15m - they carried on well past the second marker - £105m - and so they’ve now had 10 points smashed off their mediocre points total for the season.
They’ll have you believe it’s all because of their new stadium - but there’s more to it than that, for anyone who can face reading the 40 page document put out by the League. We managed to read some of it, and the contents show some excuses that are, just well, Everton aren’t they?
This week:
- The Brentford 3-0
- Atmosphere issues, is it time to look for solutions?
- A ref’s proudest moment?
- International break - absolute joy for Diaz, and Alisson won’t have minded too much
- Joy for Nunez too - MacAliister maybe not so happy in that game
- Mo Salah not wanting a break from scoring
- Some match or other at Wembley
- Everton’s magical transfer valuations
- Other blue excuses from the big PL verdict
- What will it mean for other clubs?
