On this week’s Molby On The Spot, Trev Downey and Reds and Denmark legend, Jan Molby, pick apart the final standings of all the groups and analyse the chances of those in the last 16 of Russia 2018, including The Great Dane’s compatriots. There’s some chat about VAR and the surprise exit of Germany before attention turns to Liverpool and the arrival and potential impact of Naby Keita. Jan is very interesting on the topic of how best to utilise Liverpool’s new number 8 and he also gives his verdict on the stories about Bobby Duncan, Dominic Solanke, Danny Ings and, less seriously, Marco Asensio.
Allen & Andrew are joined by Simon Brundish to tackle how psychology comes together with sports science to contribute to the improvement of performance.

Daniel Rhodes and Simon Brundish introduce the physical data from the World Cup thus far. Main headline figures and totals, followed by some examples and explanations of the poor use of data. How the conditions of the tournament influence it: weather, rest between matches & the sheer size of Russia.
Then a look at more advanced metrics, how Si has broken it down into metres per minute on and off the ball, on an individual and team level and what does that tell us?
- Does it tell us about team styles?
- From that move onto tactics: who has stood out thus far? Who has struggled?
- Briefly touch on the Liverpool players who have played.
- Predictions.

For the first time on the AnfieldIndex Pro + Podcast we've tried to do something a little different. Gags Tandon invites Dave Hendrick, Dan Kennett and Mo Chatra to re-create a transfer committee and try to plan Liverpool FC's summer with the best players possible within a budget. The following roles were set for the podcast:
- Gags Tandon - The Manager
- Dan Kennett - Lead Data Analyst
- Dave Hendrick - Head Scout
- Mo Chatra - Financial Director
Gags set out the requirements for the squad, what types of characteristics the players need to have. Dave comes up with lists of players whilst Dan Kennett provides some statistical analysis of the players mentioned as well as any he has found by using the data. Mo Chatra discusses the valuations of the players and the types of deals they may need to be completed as which would have an effect on the budget. Mo Chatra also sets the budget at the start with some assumptions.
In Part 1 the committee look for the Coutinho replacement, a goalkeeper and a centre-back.Â
Make sure you tune in next week when the guys try to reinforce the attacking midfield and forward line, only on the Anfield Index Pro + Podcast.
On this week’s Media Matters, Gags Tandon & Nina Kauser are joined by The Sunday Times' Jonathan Northcroft. They discuss many topics including:
- Importance of Lijnders' return to LFC
- Whether the Fekir deal is dead
- Thoughts on Shaqiri and the goalkeeper situation
- Controversy about the teamsheet leak for the England gameÂ
- Is the World Cup still "THE Standard" to judge football on?

On the latest episode of Newsround, Trev Downey is joined by Egyptian former television journalist, Kareem Farid, to discuss the massively controversial situation around Mohamed Salah and the EFA. It’s a tale involving the political opportunism of the morally dubious autocrat of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov; the Machiavellian manipulation of Salah by his own FA, and the ever-deepening tensions between the Reds’ superstar and the heavily politicised organisation running his national team. In a climate that has seen some very critical commentary aimed at Salah, this show attempts to present a fuller picture of a very unfortunate situation and asks what, if anything, can be done to remedy it?

The trio move onto discuss the Nabil Fekir transfer, the rumours about Alisson and Shaqiri, and a look at the Reds at the World Cup.
They also discuss Rhian Brewster and his chances of first-team football at Liverpool FC in the coming season after Neil interviewed the youngster for a feature on Goal.com.

The new episode of Molby On The Spot sees host Trev Downey and Liverpool and Denmark legend Jan Molby throwing an eye over the Liverpool players on display at the World Cup in Russia so far and discussing all the major incidents - from VAR-assisted penalties to the reigniting of the Messi/Ronaldo debate. Jan analyses penalty technique and the mentality needed to be successful from the spot on the biggest international stage and the lads discuss who look to be the early favourites to progress or depart early. On a domestic front, there’s your weekly fix of transfer talk featuring Nabil Fekir, Nick Pope, Kasper Schmeichel, Daniel Sturridge and Rhian Brewster.
On A-Eye Scouted this week, Dave is joined by Joseph Cousins, aka Cuzzy, as they scout their own team - Liverpool FC. Dave has taken this opportunity to play keep, sell or loan and asks Cuzzy for his thoughts on the squad and who he'd keep or move on. All this and more on A-Eye Scouted!
Gags and Dave get together to talk about Liverpool's transfer windows of the past. After an initial chat about the World Cup so far, they discuss Liverpool transfer windows immediately after World Cups since the transfer window system was started in the summer of 2002.
The AnfieldIndex originals then discuss the last few windows at Liverpool FC before Jurgen Klopp joined and then compare all of that to what the Reds have done since Klopp and Edwards and their team have been working together. Plenty of nostalgia, fun and comparisons to then and now!
