Interview

In Part 1 of The Interview with Mark Lawrenson, host Trev Downey explores the early days of Mark’s football career, when his mother had hoped he might find a very different vocation. The legendary centre-half describes his signing by Bobby Charlton at Preston, his move to Brighton and the eventual club record transfer which saw Bob Paisley bring him to Liverpool for almost a million pounds in 1981. There are some cracking stories, as you might expect from a seasoned television pundit, including the tales of how Arsenal had tried to lure him to Highbury with the wonders of under-floor heating and how Kenny Dalglish offered to act as his personal chauffeur.
Former Liverpool forward Paul Walsh is back with Trevor Downey for the second part of our double exclusive interview feature. In this explosive conclusion, Paul takes us back to the 85/86 double season, his strained relationship with Kenny Dalglish plus all those injuries and Liverpool’s crazy treatment facilities. He goes on to talk about the 80s drinking culture in the game, the leaving of Liverpool and his spells at Spurs, Portsmouth and Man City; and on to his current career as a pundit with Sky Sports.
In the first of our 2-part interview feature with Paul Walsh; Trevor Downey quizzes the former LFC pin-up on a wide variety of subjects. From his formative years in London as an Arsenal fan to his breakthrough with Charlton and switch to Luton plus fall-out with Brian Stein. They also cover his fledgeling England career and of course that big transfer to Liverpool and his early impressions of Souness, Molby, Dalglish, Rush, Moran etc. on joining the European Champions. Look out for part 2 later this week - Taking Over No.7 from King Kenny, 1986 Double Season, Injuries, Spurs, Man City, Portsmouth, Sky Sports and much more.
