Shaky Simon Mignolet Reverts To Nervous Performances
“Simon, are you sometimes over-thinking stuff?”
Those were the words uttered by Mrs Mignolet last season as she attempted to resolve her then-fiancé’s form. Sure enough, after his wife’s inspirational chat, Mr Mignolet’s displays improved. The once erratic goalkeeper went back to basics and looked a different player in the second half of the season.
But now we’re back at square one, and I doubt there’s much Mrs Mignolet can do this time round.
Much like the optimism in pre-season, …

Simon Mignolet - Is he still good enough? A comparison to rivals
Earlier in the season, following Liverpool's 2-1 defeat at Manchester City, I wrote an article looking at Simon Mignolet's first season up to that point as the Reds' first choice goalkeeper following his summer move from Sunderland.
At the time he had just made himself public enemy number one to a group of fans (oh how there have been many in that position this season), and questions were being asked. Since that article was published, have his performances improved? Have …

Liverpool's Defensive Errors - Mis-shapes, Mistakes, Misfits
On looking at the league table, it would be easy to blame Liverpool’s failure to win the title on their defence. It would be easy to do, partly because it’s true. However, there are many things to take into account when analysing why a team concedes the goals they do. What follows is a look at Liverpool’s defensive errors in comparison with other teams, and a brief look at whether the mistakes are systemic or the fault of individuals.
Team …

A Henderson-sized gap: How we've fared without him | Stats
A soul-destroying week has brought our title hopes down from cloud nine to only a slight chance of glory. The two results against Chelsea and Crystal Palace have gifted Manchester City an unbelievable chance of regaining the Premier League title - and even though we'll be cheering on Villa and West Ham like they're our own, it's going to need a miracle to get the trophy back to Anfield. Then again, we know all about them don't we?
You could …

Martin Skrtel: The tale of the unlikely hero
It's always a heart-in-your-mouth moment - Martin Skrtel catches your eye, with his arms around an opposition striker, with only seconds to go.
More often than not this season, it's a defensive move that's been effective enough to manage those last minute free-kicks that could have changed a lot of results for us, and who would have thought it?
It was only the start of this season that the rumours of Skrtel potentially moving on were becoming more evident, mostly …

Brendan Rodgers and The Transfer Committee | The Outgoings
Doubters.
Something Brendan Rodgers has had to deal with throughout his brief period as Liverpool manager. Whether it be his credentials, his methods, his transfer signings, his bosses, or his vocabulary, there is nothing that has escaped the manager from ridicule.
With particular regards to transfers, fans have spoken themselves to death in discussing who to sign, how much they are worth, how Ian Ayre will mess it up, what is a transfer committee, and how come we didn't sign …

Joe ‘Welsh Xavi’ Allen: The solution to LFC’s midfield problems?
2013/2014 season, for Liverpool fans, has been a roller-coaster ride with the brilliance of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez in the goal scoring department while Liverpool’s midfield has been exposed quite a lot this season by teams ranked below us.
Joe Allen, playing with Lucas Leiva and Jordan Henderson in the middle 3, dominated the opposition midfield and injected some extra dynamism into the team. This combination worked much better than the Gerrard-Lucas pairing . Games against Tottenham, Manchester City …

West Brom 1 Liverpool 1 | Review and Match Stats
West Brom took points off yet another top of the table rival as Liverpool were held to a lacklustre 1-1 draw at the Hawthorns. The visitors went ahead midway into the first half through Daniel Sturridge only for veteran defender Kolo Touré to gift an equaliser to West Brom via a powerful Victor Anichebe finish. It was a sour finish to a week which promised so much after the Merseyside derby win over Everton followed by the pursuit of talented …

Is it time to re-open the case for the defence?
Editors Note: This article was written before the thumping of Everton and does not include numbers from that game.
Back in September I wrote a piece about Liverpool’s defence and how we were blessed with some excellent defenders. How were were able to almost mix and match our defenders if required and how, even with an injury crisis we should be able to cope extremely well.
I wrote that Glen Johnson, Kolo Toure, Daniel Agger and Jose Enrique were, back …
