Andoni Iraola Confirms Liverpool Injury News Ahead of AFC Bournemouth Clash
Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has delivered a positive injury update ahead of Sunday’s Premier League trip to AFC Bournemouth, a fixture carrying considerably more personal significance than most at this early stage of his Anfield tenure.
Iraola returns to the Vitality Stadium for the first time since leaving Bournemouth following three seasons in charge. His focus will inevitably be on Liverpool’s need for Premier League points, particularly after a start which has produced plenty of competitive performances without enough victories.
Liverpool travel south with some momentum after Tuesday night’s 3-1 Carabao Cup victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.
Liverpool Build Momentum Before Bournemouth Trip
Alexis Mac Allister opened the scoring after 21 minutes, completing a quick Liverpool move involving Joe Gomez and Cody Gakpo. Mac Allister then turned provider nine minutes into the second half, finding Gakpo, who calmly finished across goal.
Conor Gallagher reduced Tottenham’s deficit with a 69th minute header before Dominik Szoboszlai settled proceedings in stoppage time, producing a spectacular volley from 25 yards.
Giorgi Mamardashvili also contributed with several important saves as Liverpool booked their place in the fourth round.
For Iraola, there were useful signs throughout the evening. Mac Allister and Gakpo both impressed after difficult 2025-26 campaigns, while Gomez managed 45 minutes on his return.
Iraola Provides Positive Liverpool Injury Update
Speaking before the Bournemouth fixture, Iraola confirmed that Liverpool had suffered no fresh injury problems following the midweek victory.
“Everyone is ready to go, we have the same players. We don’t have the long-term injured or Federico. Everyone else is fine.”

That gives Iraola options as he considers how much to change following Tuesday’s cup tie.
Liverpool’s long-term absentees remain unavailable. Conor Bradley continues his recovery from the serious knee injury he suffered against Arsenal in January, while Giovanni Leoni is also working towards his return after more than a year out.
Hugo Ekitike remains sidelined following the Achilles injury he sustained against PSG towards the end of last season. Federico Chiesa is also unavailable, having missed the opening weeks of the campaign with a lower-back problem.
Premier League Points Remain Liverpool Priority
Liverpool’s league position provides the broader context surrounding Sunday’s match.
Iraola’s side remain unbeaten in the Premier League, although they have recorded only one victory from their opening four fixtures. Draws against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest required Liverpool to recover from losing positions, while Fulham subsequently left Anfield with a point following a 0-0 draw.
That makes Bournemouth an important opportunity to convert Liverpool’s unbeaten start into something more substantial.
There is clearly still a process unfolding under Iraola. A new head coach is implementing his ideas while attempting to establish which combinations best suit the squad he inherited.
Bournemouth Reunion Adds Extra Dimension
Iraola knows Bournemouth particularly well, which creates an unusual tactical dynamic.
Three seasons at the Vitality Stadium gave him an intimate understanding of the club, many of its players and the environment Liverpool will encounter on Sunday.
Liverpool, meanwhile, arrive with a healthier squad and encouragement from their Carabao Cup performance.
The emotional element of Iraola returning to AFC Bournemouth will attract attention, but Liverpool’s requirement is straightforward. After winning only once in four Premier League matches, the Reds need to start turning competitive performances into victories.
Tuesday provided some momentum. Sunday will show whether Liverpool can carry it into the league.
