Liverpool left-back targets discussed as two names emerge

Liverpool’s left-back position was identified as an area to watch during the latest episode of Media Matters for Anfield Index, with Tyrick Mitchell and David Raum among the names discussed by Dave Davis and Lewis Steele.

The conversation came after Davis reminded Steele that he had previously identified left-back as an area of the squad that needed improvement. With several links now beginning to emerge, the position has become one of the more notable areas to monitor around Liverpool.

Tyrick Mitchell emerges as Liverpool option

The first name mentioned was Crystal Palace left-back Tyrick Mitchell.

Davis pointed out that Mitchell is in the final year of his contract and said he would be a free agent in the summer. He also noted that Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea had all been suggested as potential destinations.

Mitchell’s contract situation has continued to attract attention, with Liverpool’s own website reporting last week that the defender was attracting interest from both Liverpool and Manchester United as he entered the final year of his Palace deal.

The podcast discussion was therefore centred on a player whose availability could become particularly relevant if Liverpool decide to strengthen at left-back.

David Raum also mentioned

The other name brought into the conversation was David Raum, described on the podcast as the RB Leipzig captain and another left-back in the final year of his deal.

Davis noted that it was interesting to see several left-back links beginning to appear around the same time.

Steele offered some context for why Liverpool could be paying attention to the position, saying: “I think it’s fair to say Liverpool will be attentive to the left back situation.”

The discussion therefore placed Mitchell and Raum alongside a broader question over Liverpool’s options on the left side of defence.

Left-back identified as an area to improve

Steele was particularly direct when assessing Liverpool’s current squad.

He said: “you can clearly see that left back is a weakness in the squad.” He also said right-back was a weakness, adding that Liverpool would be looking to do something in those areas.

Steele then added: “left back’s definitely an area to improve in the next six six months.”

That timeframe is important to the discussion because the podcast also touched on the January transfer window. Steele admitted that he is sceptical about January activity, saying that not many clubs tend to do much business during the month.

The comments leave Liverpool’s left-back position as an area worth monitoring, with Mitchell and Raum the two names specifically raised by Davis and Steele.
