Liverpool Transfer News: Lewis Steele Discusses Lamine Camara Interest

Liverpool’s interest in AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara remains a subject of discussion as the club considers whether to strengthen its midfield during the January transfer window or wait until next summer.

Speaking to Dave Davis on Anfield Index’s Media Matters podcast, journalist Lewis Steele provided an update on Liverpool’s pursuit of Camara, discussing previous contact, the player’s potential willingness to move and the uncertainty surrounding the timing of any deal.

With Liverpool also linked to Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, the conversation offered an insight into the options being considered as the club assesses its midfield requirements.

Liverpool Interest in Lamine Camara Remains Strong

Camara’s name has featured regularly in discussions surrounding Liverpool’s midfield recruitment, with Davis referencing reports linking the Monaco player with a potential move to Anfield.

Steele acknowledged that the interest was well established.

“I think Lamine Camara is definitely one that’s on the list.”

He also pointed towards the considerable reporting surrounding the midfielder, suggesting that Liverpool’s interest had been discussed extensively.

More significantly, Steele recalled how Camara had emerged as a potential option during the closing stages of the previous transfer window.

“He was offered around in that last week of the window liverpool it felt for a few hours like that was maybe a goer.”

However, the possibility of a transfer failed to develop into a completed agreement.

Steele explained that Liverpool’s response at the time had been consistent when questions were raised about midfield recruitment.

“They straight away came back with we’re not signing a midfielder we’ve always said we’re not signing a midfielder.”

Liverpool ultimately maintained that position, although Steele suggested that the possibility of signing Camara had remained relevant.

Lewis Steele Suggests Liverpool Have Laid Groundwork

One of the most interesting aspects of Steele’s assessment concerned the work Liverpool may already have undertaken regarding a potential transfer.

Discussing the continued speculation, Steele said:

“The smell of the potential kamara deal never really went away.”

That observation was followed by a further assessment of where Liverpool might stand.

“It feels like Liverpool have put in a bit of groundwork for that deal.”

Steele also offered an indication of the player’s possible attitude towards a move.

“It feels like Camara will be open to the deal.”

These comments suggest that Camara remains a realistic option under consideration, although Steele stopped short of suggesting that Liverpool had reached an agreement or decided when to proceed.

January or Summer Move Remains Uncertain

Despite Liverpool’s apparent interest, the timing of any potential agreement remains unresolved.

Davis questioned whether Julian Ward’s ongoing assessment of midfield targets would result in a January signing or whether Liverpool would postpone their recruitment until next summer.

Steele highlighted the club’s previous willingness to bring forward planned summer transfers.

“We’ve seen Liverpool have been prepared to bring summer targets forward, as it were, in the last few five or six years.”

He referenced Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo as examples of players whose arrivals demonstrated that approach.

However, Steele offered no definitive indication that Camara would follow the same path.

“It’s just whether they do it in January or the summer.”

Chelsea’s involvement also featured in the discussion, with Steele noting that Camara had turned down the London club on deadline day.

“Maybe the two things are linked and we’ll have to keep an eye on it.”

The comments leave Liverpool’s potential pursuit open, with no confirmation that a January agreement is being prepared.

Alexis Mac Allister Form Could Influence Midfield Plans

Another important element of the conversation concerned the performances of Liverpool’s existing midfielders.

Steele acknowledged that criticism of Liverpool’s summer recruitment had not fully anticipated the improvements made by Alexis Mac Allister and Trey Nyoni.

“When everyone was saying how desperate the midfield situation was in the summer, that was not really factoring in how good Mac Allister was going to be or how good Trey Nyoni was going to be.”

Their performances could therefore influence the timing of Liverpool’s next midfield signing.

Steele explained that Liverpool’s decision-makers would need to consider those developments when determining their next move.

“It’s just how much that is considered when Julian Ward goes to make these calls.”

For Liverpool, the interest in Lamine Camara remains an important part of the wider midfield conversation.

Steele’s assessment suggests the club have already explored the possibility of signing the Monaco midfielder, while his comments about groundwork and the player’s apparent openness to a move provide reasons to monitor developments.

However, the central question remains unanswered. Liverpool must decide whether to pursue Camara in January or continue assessing their options ahead of next summer.

For now, the midfielder remains firmly among the names being discussed as Liverpool consider their next recruitment decision.
