Liverpool Under 18s 5 – 1 Blackburn Rovers Under 18s
The Liverpool Under-18’s prepared for their FA Youth Cup showdown with Manchester United in the best possible way, coming back from a goal down to hit Blackburn for five.
Some slack defending from a cleverly worked free-kick saw Blackburn take the lead just after the half-hour mark through Toni Vastic, however Liverpool managed the equaliser just before half time. The in form Adam Morgan received a square ball from Raheem Sterling before a surging run through the middle of the Blackburn defence saw him beat three players and dispatch a fine left foot finish into the bottom corner.
The second half saw the Reds take control of the game and they took the lead after Krisztian Adorjan’s long through ball set Sterling free, the young winger cutting inside from the left in what is becoming trademark fashion and finishing with his right foot from the edge of the area. Morgan then made it three following some neat build up play between Adorjan, Sterling & himself.
The points were made safe after Adorjan was brought down following a short corner from Sterling, captain Conor Coady putting away the penalty in confident fashion. Adorjan then capped the day off with the goal his performance deserved. As his 10 assists this season suggest, the Hungarian No. 10 is the chief source of creativity in the side, but after receiving the ball from sub Tom Walsh in the right hand channel the Blackburn defence gave him enough space for an excellent finish with the outside of his boot.
That’s now 9 consecutive wins for a side full of confidence, and still to be strengthened by the likes of Andre Wisdom, John Flanagan & Suso for the FA Youth Cup.
Liverpool U18s: Belford, Poor, Smith, Sama, Regan, Roddan, Coady, Sterling, Adorjan, Mukendi, Morgan (Walsh).
