Player Ratings as United take 3 points at Old Trafford

Liverpool were so ‘un-Liverpool’ like in attack, and so ‘Liverpool’ in their defence as they slumped to defeat at Old Trafford. The second half was a better performance and the ref was a nutcase, but that does not take away a shambolic defensive performance in first half.

Loris Karius (5) – Left high and dry for both his goals. Made an excellent late tackle high up the pitch as Liverpool looked to salvage a point.

Trent Alexander Arnold (2) – Horrid game for the youngster as he was easily bypassed for both the goals. Taken off in the second half.

Dejan Lovren (2) – Bravado, Interview, Mistakes. Rinse and Repeat. Lovren was equally responsible for both the goals and was the cause for Mata almost scoring the 3rd. Was bullied by Lukaku and made unnecessary challenges late on, only to be berated by the manager. Made a couple of decent interceptions late on.

Virgil Van Dijk (5) – Missed an easy chance to score off a set piece. Could have taken more leadership to close down Lukaku in the first half.

Andrew Robertson (5) – Decent performance, but did not do enough to trouble the United defence. The lack of width in the first half was one of the main reasons why Liverpool struggled in the first half. Taken off in the second half.

Emre Can (5) – Was a struggle in midfield as the whole midfield struggled to cope with the 2 sitting United midfielders. Had minimal impact on the game.

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain (4) – Not a good performance today as his passing and decision making were awry. Taken off in the second half.

James Milner (5) – Set-piece delivery was decent, but otherwise could not get involved in the game.

Mo Salah (4) – Quietest game in his career at Liverpool, yet. There was no service to him, and every-time he had the ball there were players closing him down. Had a half chance right at the end, but his shot ballooned over summing up his day.

Roberto Firmino (5) – A quiet performance from the Brazilian. His link-up play was not as good as the lofty standards he has set for himself. Had to drop a lot deeper to stay involved in the game.

Sadio Mane (4) – Poor performance from Sadio as his decision making was more wrong than right.

Adam Lallana (4) – Got into space, got onto the ball. That is about it.

Gini Wijnaldum ( 5)  – Interesting change to get him at right back. He was predominantly narrow and centre when on the ball though and played a couple of decent passes.
