Adam Lallana believes that Liverpool’s togetherness and team spirit means they will not collapse in Premier League title run-in between now and May.
Liverpool have hit something of a mini-slump with regards to form after two 1-1 draws in their last two games, at home to Leicester City and away to West Ham.
Manchester City took advantage of Liverpool’s dropped points and Pep Guardiola’s side went back to the top of the league table after winning 2-0 at Everton on Wednesday night.
Liverpool have the opportunity to reclaim top spot if they can win their game in hand at home to Bournemouth this Saturday.
When interviewed by Liverpoolfc.com, Lallana highlighted the past experiences this squad has gone through together and how some defeats make you come back stronger.
“We do things off the pitch together, we fight on the pitch for each other and that’s really what is special.
“We’ve lost together, we’ve lost a Champions League final together, and moments like that make you stronger. It’s a marathon, not a sprint and there are always going to be little hiccups, positive moments, bad moments, injuries, illnesses and suspensions. It’s about coming through it together.
The former Southampton midfielder also mentioned the media and how the squad just has to shut out the noise from outside to remain focused on the title race, not allowing external pressures to mount.
“Media is a big part of the world – and of course, they have got to have things to talk about – so part of me is not surprised that it [Liverpool’s form] is a talking point from the outside, but there are times during the season – and in lots of walks of life – when we’ve got to block the noise out and come together.
“That togetherness is what keeps you fighting, keeps you focused on what needs to be done and what the important points are. That’s what we’ll be doing going into the weekend’s game.”
