Liverpool Transfer News: £48m Midfielder Set to Join Premier League Club

Whilst a lot of talk has been on Liverpool’s need to bolster their attacking and defensive depth this summer, the midfield department still needs serious work.

It was a clear weakness in the abysmal title defence under Arne Slot. Both Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister massively struggled for form, whilst Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai spent many games at right-back.

That area could yet get even weaker. Exits for both Mac Allister and Jones are still on the table this summer, which would mean Liverpool have no option to sign a new midfielder.

Some names have been mentioned. Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton was strongly linked, but Liverpool’s interest has since cooled this summer. The likes of AS Monaco’s Lamine Camara and RC Lens’ Mamadou Sangare have also been mentioned.

However, Liverpool look set to miss out on one of their targets…

Mamadou Sangare Closing in on Premier League Move

According to L’Equipe, Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangare is closing in on a £48m switch to Brentford.

It comes a surprise move as the 24-year-old has been linked with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United this summer.

But it seems Liverpool are more than happy to pass on this opportunity, as they continue their potentially record-breaking pursuit of PSG forward Bradley Barcola.

Should one of their current midfielders head for the exit, then they could look back at this with some regret, especially considering the crazy prices floating around in the midfield market this summer.
