Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said that Roberto Firmino’s ankle injury may not be as bad as first feared by The Reds’ medical team.
Klopp was speaking to the media today ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Watford at Anfield on Wednesday night.
When asked for an update on Firmino’s injury, Klopp said:
“He looks good, we were obviously lucky. It is not as serious as we thought in the first moment, but if Bobby leaves the pitch it is not a good sign.
“We play tomorrow and it will be very close for that,” he said. “Because it’s Bobby, I would say ‘yes [there is a chance for Watford]’, but I don’t know if I would use that chance.
“Writing Bobby off is a big mistake because he recovers very quick. And (obviously) there is a big chance for the derby. It looks good, obviously, we were lucky.”
The Liverpool boss also discussed his options if Firmino can’t start tomorrow night.
“It’s not a problem, someone else will come in (if he doesn’t make it). That’s the nature of playing for a club like Liverpool,” he said.
“You have a few players that don’t have 500,000 minutes before they start the next game, but they still have a lot of quality.
“If we have to change a few things, we will change. We changed a couple of things during the season, but obviously, Bobby was pretty much always involved.”
We’ve given three different lineup options for the scenario of Firmino missing out against Watford. Go check them out here.
