Liverpool’s German manager Jurgen Klopp claims that his team will not focus solely on Premier League success for the remainder of this season.
The Reds are entering the final three months of what has already been a season to remember as a Liverpool fan. Klopp’s charges have blown away all of Liverpool’s previous top-flight records with an incredible 19 wins from their 24 league games so far.
Liverpool are also still competing in the UEFA Champions League, a competition they reached the final in last season.
While many Liverpool fans will be happy to hear The Reds plan on fighting on all fronts between now and May, some may have been hoping that their manager would actually prioritise bringing a first league title in 29 years back to Anfield.
As reported in The Guardian, Klopp said:
“We will try [to go for both], for sure. That is what we tried last year. There was the discussion this year when people said we should focus only on the league so now we are still in the Champions League and I am quite happy about it. We have a very difficult game yet listening to some people it seems we are already through because ‘It’s only Bayern Munich’. Have you looked at the team they have or how they are in shape now after the winter break?
“We will be ready for the Champions League and a very, very tough game. This is the Champions League – one game and then two weeks before we play them again. We always play the league and the Champions League is then a little sweet in between and we will go for it with all we have. That is normal.”
Liverpool’s continuing injury concerns mean that this will be a very tough ask for the current first-team squad. However, in Klopp, Liverpool have a manager who can get his team to a level of consistent overperformance – getting extraordinary results from fringe players and youngsters alike.
It’s bound to be eventful as we reach the business end of the season so strap in LFC fans.
